trouble installing m-audio sound card

im going to ask for a little advance help in troubleshooting a sound card issue.

a relative picked up a m-audio delta66? sound card. apparently he botched the install and is asking for help. the specs are

dell 2400 system
256 ram
onboard audio
onboard video
i believe a p-4 2.4
80g hd

am i going to have to disable onboard sound before installing the new drivers?
will i have to delete the sound related drivers in device manager?
any other issues that would be of help to me?

he says the manual is not much help and he has 4 disks and hes not really sure which one to use.

one more question. would it be possible to install the drivers without all the software thats included and use the program from cakewalk (music creator) ?

thanks in advance

problem is solved. thanks to all replies

well, it's possible to use 2 soundcards... but I'd suggest to uninstall the onboard sound driver first, and then disable it. And yes, it's possible to install the drivers without the software. I suggest to download the latest driver from M-Audio website.

just an update

i got the winxp driver to install. no conflicts in device drivers.

when i select anything except the (maxxxx something or other) for sound recording or playback i loose the volume control on the taskbar.

the only option i have for midi music playback is microsoft wavetable sw synth.

there are options to select m-audio in recording and playback and when i select them i got the only audio out i was able to get when i brought up the registration screen for musicmatch jutebox. typed in the code and still couldnt get anywhere with that. do i need it to make the sound system work?

i hate to mess around with disabling device drivers in xp but if nothing else helps ill have to try it. im hoping because i did set sound out it will only be software related.

thanks
