Help! The heatsink is the only thing that's holding me up from using my newley built Athlon. I just bought a 1.33Ghz T-Bird (Boxed) yesterday. It came with the heatsink, chip, and manual. I installed the chip in a sec, but I'm really having trouble trying to get the damn heatsink on. I'm finding once I put on clip on the lug, the other clip is nearly impossible to press down to fit the other lug. What can I do here?

It's like loosing your virginity, your nervus and sweaty do it very carefully. You need alot of pressure, if you have a boxed chip it's under warranty anyway. Once you do it the other times will be easy, if something goes horribly wrong you can always get another chip :)

just put some duc tape on the mobo where you press down on the clip, and remove the fan for better eaqual pressure. and you will need alot of pressure, you cannot beleive how much pressure I put on with the GW WBK38. ehh but put the fan back though.

I agree with NicColt...it's not easy..I just recently built my first Tbird system and it was b1tch to get the HS/F on..but I did as he said...took my time and used a lot pressure on it...don't forget to put the thermal goop (whatever kind you have) on!!:D

Thanks a lot! Oh, by the way, when you buy a boxed processor, the hs/f comes with thermal compound already on it. Bonus :)

bleh.. just checking.. this sounds extremely loserish (;)) but did you forget to use the socket lever by chance? ..i was smart enough to do that and it took a lot more work to get the hsf on than it did when the chip was seated properly..

lol DANNY61902, considering it lengthens the size of the socket slightly I think it would make it near impossible :Q
