trouble installing a soundcard

i have a PSC704 in my garage which i havent used in a while. it still works, i tested it on my wife's pc,the installation process was painless. then i tried it on mine, was detected by win xp, installed the drivers (most current) but the deviceis marked by an asterisk in device manager . i also could not get wm to play because its telling me that i do not have a sound device installed or it could not find the one ( not the exact words but something like that ). anyway, my mobo is a an35n,and i think the on board sound on it is kinda weak. now is it worth to go thru all the trouble to make this sound card work or should i just get an audigy? btw i am only running a 2.1 set of speakers at present ...

thanks

Another thing you might want to try is set "Plug and Play OS" to YES in bios settings if nothing else works..

thanks for the tips guys, i tried them both but i guess this piece of HW has some conflict with something that is already in my system(or maybe the mobo in particular).the soundcard works and installs easily with 2 diffrent systems in the house both using a K7S5A mobo. anyway i got the issue fixed by getting an audigy2 zs and it put a smile on my face 🙂
