Trouble Installing a DVD Drive...

I have been trying to install a DVD-Rom Drive into a system now for 2 weeks. When I install it and boot up into Windows 98, I try to play a DVD and it just says that there isn't any Disc in drive (D🙂. I have played a DVD with that system across the network from another computer and it worked fine. I tried switching the IDE cables betwen the HDD and the DVD and still only the Hard Drive works, the DVD is detected but it doesn't read anything properly. I put the DVD into another computer and it worked beautifully. I have tried other software (currently using Power DVD) like WinDVD and it still doesn't work...

Can anyone think of a reason why it would do this?

There are a couple of things to try/consider:

1) Is DMA enabled?
2) Do you have DMA Busmastering drivers installed?
3) Can you physically copy files of the DVD in explorer?
4) Is it a player related issue?
5) Do you have a UDF driver installed?
6) Is auto insert notification turned on for the drive?

It sounds as if it is only player related.
With option 6, I found turning off the auto insert caused my dvd player software to go from
not playing or saying no disc to telling me copyright authorization failure. Try messing with
the different options if possible and see what changes. Also try copying files (small ones)
to your hard drive. You might be able to read DVD's but not be able to play due to decoding the
DVD contents. Are you using hardware based decoding?

1. DMA is enabled
2. I am not sure what that is.
3. No the DVD Plyer cannot show up more than one file in explorer, which has no name and is considered a winamp file.
4. No it is not a player related problem

5. I don't know what that is.
6. It is turned on.

Thanks for your help, I will try these things.
