Trouble in SETI Paradise!!!

My SETI Q IP is constantly unreachable. Whenever, I get to the computer, it has an error message saying a Duplicate IP is present in the system. When I click Internet Explorer, it will go to the default page and the computer is reachable again.

Is someone hacking my IP and using it? It's a static DSL service.

IsOs,

Is this one in a DMZ or within your network?

Are you using a DHCP router?

Do you use AT&T Broadband?

Hi DanC,

There's no router. The computer has 2 NICs and 1 is connected directly to the Fujitsu modem. Only have BlackICE as firewall and port 5517 is open.

Hey IsOs,

Check the IP setup on both nics to make sure they don't have same IP. What's the second nic connecting to? If it's another computer, check that IP too. Is the PC acting forwarding IP like a router? Take a look at the Event Viewer for errors.

Btw, there are issues with BlackIce - posted on other forums. Have you check the BlackIce logs? I would try and run ZoneAlarm instead. Here's link to free version.

Hope that helps!

Edit: You can go here to the Shields Up page and test your PC with their port scanner to see if there are any possible holes on your network!

Thanks,

The only port open is 5517 for the Q. The NICS are setup properly. Below is the event log entry
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Tcpip
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4199
Date: 1/16/2002
Time: 5:46:01 PM
User: N/A
Computer: XXXXX
Description:
The system detected an address conflict for IP address xx.XXX.xxx.XXX with the system having network hardware address 00:80:C8:FD:5A:0C. Network operations on this system may be disrupted as a result.
Data:
0000: 00 00 00 00 03 00 50 00 ......P.
0008: 00 00 00 00 67 10 00 c0 ....g..À
0010: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0018: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........
0020: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ........

Would a failing network card show this symptom?

<< network hardware address 00:80:C8:FD:5A:0C >>

Check which of your nic card has this hardware address. Do an ipconfig/all on a win2k/xp box or winipcfg and that will tell you the conflicting cards.

Thanks!

This is the card that my DSL line is connected. The other nic has a different static IP address and connected to the local lan. I have no problem with the local lan.

IsOs,

Hmmm, are you getting the IP conflicts all the time? Then the only other thing I can think of is some foo entered your IP address into his static DSL setup, and both of you go to the same CO or dslam at the telco.

The ISP/DSL provider gave me a new set of IP number and when I tried it last night, it doesn't work:|

I think the ISP people doesn't know what they're doing.
