Trouble Going to Sleep

jgbishop

Senior member
I have the hardest time going to sleep every night. Some of my family members can go to sleep no more than five minutes after they lay down, but it consistently takes me anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half to go to sleep. Every night! Are there any safe solutions to getting to sleep quickly? I don't exercise like I should, so I know that is part of the problem.

But what do people here do (if anything)?

Usually a glass of warm milk does it for me. Did you try that already?
I never understood how that could possibly make you tired.

Maybe if you're 3.. lol

maybe I'm just weird, but I've never been able to go to sleep right after having sex or masturbating.

if I'm really having a hard time getting to sleep, a night cap usually helps. otherwise, I spend a 15-20 minutes reading before going to bed (only reading time I usually get), and then fall asleep right away.

I've also found that using your bed only for sleeping helps a lot. In college, I used my bed as a couch for watching television and a make-shift desk for doing homework on. I had the hardest time falling asleep unless I was really, really tired.

i couldn't fall asleep for the past 3 weeks.
i hit the gym way early in the morning, and kept myself up till about 12am.

I passed out and woke up about 20 min ago 🙂

Agreed, put some head phones on or a bombbox...put your favorite slow(er) music on and just think about things, you'll fall asleep. I used to lie in bed for 2-5 hours before actually falling to sleep, then i found music.

Anybody here every try any sleeping pills? If so, how well do those work?

I used to use them occasionally (re: while in college, when I'd have to sleep through loud parties and often during the day-time). the problem is that you can potentially develop a dependance on them, where sleeping becomes impossibly hard without the use of sleeping pills (and couple that with building a restistance to the pills, and you're looking at OD city).

I could recommend something that would work really well.

Unfortunately, it's against the law for some reason. 😛

Actually milk has the same stuff in it that turkey does, "Tryptophan", it makes you sleepy. Warm milk is naturally relaxing to your body.

It's not nearly that simple.

Viper GTS

Glass of wine

Or...sleeping pills.

Ever thought of going in for analysis of insomnia. There are sleep disorder centers that could help.

You don't excersize, but I would guess that most people don't. Are you even active during the day? If you sit at a desk all day, print to a remote printer to get up and move around more. If you can work outside / in a park, do that to get some sun and fresh air. Try just walking for 30 minutes on your lunch break. Also, cut down on caffeines and high sugar food / drinks.
