trouble getting files off a FTP

Nightly my machine backsup the My Documents directory to a remote server in California hosted by my friend/old customer that runs a Colo/backbone facility. I use it as one level of my "disaster recovery" plan (f you can call it that).

However, I just tried to retrieve some files off the server, namely some .jpg files and I was unable to download them, or rename them or do ANYTHING with them for that matter.

This is what I get if I try to dload the file named: 5-26-2005 3-56-45 PM 2272x1520-1.JPG

[R] List Complete: 12 KB in 0.09 seconds (127.8 KB/s)

I'm assuming it has to do with the length of the file names as shorter names (even with spaces) download just fine. But what would cause this? OS hes running on the server? FTP settings? IF I recall it was BSD on that machine.
