Trouble forwarding ports. Two routers.

Before I start downloading files from the BitTorrent tracker that I'm registered with, I want to make sure the my computer is completely accessible to all peers. Unfortunately, I happen to have DSL modem that doubles as router, which fact I just became aware of. I also have another NAT router that I had bought quite a while ago which complicates matters even more.

My setup:
  • Windows XP
  • AT&T DSL (SNET)
  • 2Wire 1000SW (modem/router)
  • Belkin F5D7230-4 (wireless router)
So far I have set a static IP for my computer by following this guide (static IP: One/Two). I have also configured my Belkin router to act solely as a WAP (guide) so that the 2Wire can handle all firewall processes (Belkin WAP mode: Text). And finally, my 2Wire has been set to allow the proper Azureus and uTorrent ports (Ports: Text). Thus far, my network appears as such.

After doing all that, the tracker still refuses to recognize me as connectible, which is very frustrating because it could mean that the ports are being blocked by my ISP. However, before I give up hope completely, I'd like to ask the AT network gurus for help.

AFAIK, uTorrent doesn't really have proper ports, so just set them to something else and see if works. Have you tried any other services to see if they are broken, too?

I have tried port 30424 for uTorrent, but that didn't work either.

The services aren't broken, and I can download without problem; it's just that without being clever, I can only connect to those users in the swarm who are connectible. This means that my ability to upload, and sometimes download, is limited, which will effect my share ratio which in my case is important.

I am using a D-Link DGL-4300 and had problems with the µTorrent client getting full access via UPnP until D-Link released an update for the router. I suggest you use UPnP if your router will support it.

So you have forwarded the ports on the router...
From your main computer can you ping the dsl router or just the NAT/Firewall? Open a command prompt (run ->CMD) then type "ping 172.16.0.1" (I think this was the DSL router IP...)

At my house I had to forward from my cable router to my wireless router, then from my wireless router to my desktop because they are separate networks.
