Trouble finding motivation to finish Baldur's Gate 1. Switch to BG2?

I've never played Baldur's Gate 2 and I wanted to first complete BG1 before I started BG2 to be caught up with the story, and perhaps be able to appreciate BG2 more. The real goal was to play BG2 because I hear soooo much about how it's supposed to be an amazing gaming experience.

I'm using the BGTutu mod, and currently I'm on Chapter 5 (of 9 right?) and it's just not that inspiring currently. I'm using a fighter as my main char. I have Imoen, Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc, & Dynaheir in my party. I think most of my characters are around lvl 5-7 currently.

Do things start to pick up soon? I haven't yet gone to the city of Baldur's Gate, but I believe that's what the quest/story is telling me to do next.

Should I stick with it? Or just move on to BG2? I'd like to complete it, but it's just not super fun right now imo.

Lol dude, I didn't even get out of the dungeon/jail at the beginning of the game in BG2 yet. I've also lost motivation :)

I was enjoying BG1 for a while, but stopped playing for a month or two (don't recall how long really) and when I picked it up again I just wasn't into it as much as I had been.

The party dynamics and stories and side stories in BG2 are MUCH better. BG1 is a drag by comparison. I grinded through it just to be done, and I couldnt do it at all without the tutu mod.

However, experiencing the BG1 story before the BG2 story is pretty damn epic. Just cheat give yourself invulnerability and plow through the game.

What are the bare minimum addons/fixes I need for BG2, other than the official patches?

I'm playing BG1 for the first time years after playing BG2, and am actually enjoying the original more than the sequel. I haven't beaten it yet, but to be honest it doesn't change much by the time you enter Baldur's Gate. A lot more sub-quests and such, but not too different in execution (still a lot of Fedex and whatnot). You may just want to quit.

BG was the first truly open ended game I ever played.

If you could find your way to the edge of the map you could open up new tiles to travel to.

Of course - you'd get your ass kicked if you were too weak to handle it. But the choice was yours.

I really missed that freedom in BG2. Plus - BG2 was too easy.

People complain about the fetchit quests in BG. I was so immersed in the world that it didn't detract from my enjoyment at all.

I was never able to finish bg1; but I was sad when bg2 ended. This was about 4 years ago when I picked them both up. Oddly I missed these games the first time around - I think I was into half life and star craft when they first came out.

Get NPC Project for BG1 :) The only thing I missed in BG1 was party banters and romances. This mod fixes that and is EXTREMELY well written.

As for your weak moment, I get that each time I enter Baldur's Gate for the "first time". All the distractions... However, the game is so amazing I just try to take it slow and focus on the conversations and all the details and I manage to be pulled back in.

You will reinstall this game.

I'm going to do it today. I'd almost like to do a "Let's Play" style chronicle of my game. Do you happen to know how I can run bg2 at 1920x1200 without it looking terrible? I know the widescreen patch can probably do that resolution, but I don't know if everything will be too small.

The trouble I have with using Dungeon-Be-Gone is that it only gives you vanilla xp for all the stuff you skip. If you're playing a tactical mod setup with difficulty increased you cheat yourself out of some good xp by skipping the dungeon.

No dice there. I only use the in game 1024x768. On a 22" screen it looks great, trust me. Every time I try to use 1600x1200 the game freezes up.

I am running it windowed 1440x900 on my HDTV when I play it - it's the highest for me that's usable. The font gets too small after that imo. Looks great and plays even better.

Here's a screeenshot I have from one of my playthroughs at 1440x900:

BG1 is boring, you can see the entirety of the plot by watching the chapter cutscenes and there is no character development.

Furthermore since I play as a mage it was especially boring being so low level and useless the entire game.
