Trouble customizing toolbars in Word 2002

I've got a really weird problem this morning. I'm working off of a pretty fresh (~1 week old) install of XP Pro, and I'm having trouble getting customizations (new buttons) on the toolbars to stay. Strangely, toolbars stay wherever I physically put them, but I can't get new buttons to stay after I close and re-open Word. I tried everything in this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291484/en-us

But nothing seems to help. Do you fellas have any suggestions? I was thinking maybe Kaspersky isn't letting the registry get changed or something, otherwise I'm pretty stumped.

Did you make sure that when you add the buttons that at the bottom by Save in: it says Normal.dot ?

If not, this should fix it. If you DID say to save it in normal.dot, you may want to close word, search for and delete any instances of normal.dot, then let word create a new normal.dot file the next time you open it. Don't open any documents, do whatever you want to the toolbars ensuring the Save in: is still Normal.dot, then close Word. The next time you open Word everything should be as you set it.
