Trouble connecting to server through router!!!

Im using a D link Di-604 router and it will connect to my friends server but will not display the files. If i unhook my router i can connect to the server and everything works fine. I have configured the router to forward the correct port for the server as well and still no luck. It is an FTP server that is running on port 211.

Any ideas?

Thanks

bump for a homie.

I think the problem he's having is his FTP client is going into passive mode, but I'm not sure why. it does it with all clients as well.

Actually, passive mode is the proper way to connect through a router, if you attempt to connect in active mode, it's likely to fail unless you've forwarded a bunch of ports, triggered on the main FTP port.
