Trouble calibrating MBA

Hello all. First post here and it's a bit odd. Hope someone can help.

Just purchased a new 13" Macbook Air and just for fun decided to try to calibrate it with my i1d2. Downloaded the Lion version of i1Display software which I've used previously on my iMac without problem. For some reason, the software does not detect the i1d2 puck. I've checked the system profiler and it is detected there as Eye-one Display. Also tried ColorEyes Pro and it doesn't detect the puck either. Also plugged it in to my iMac and it is detected by the i1Display software. Anyone have any idea why the software isn't detecting the puck on the MBA even though it's plugged in? I still have Lion on the MBA, by the way.

Any help appreciated.

If it's a new MBA, wouldn't it have come with Mountain Lion (10.8)? If so, then perhaps it's a software compatibility issue?

Did you literally just buy in the last week or so, or in the past few months?

Anyway, that is beside the point, Did you try both USB ports (just for giggles). And is the iMac also running Lion?

Just purchased last Friday at the local Apple store. The iMac still has Lion as well since X-rite has no plans to support Mountain Lion and the iMac is my main rig for photo-editing and printing. I did try both USB ports with the same result.

I heard from someone on dpreview who had the identical problem and solved it by plugging the i1d2 puck into a usb port on an external monitor which was connected to the MBA and then it worked. I may buy a usb 3 hub and plug that into the MBA but I'm still baffled why the device shows up in the system profiler but isn't detected by the software intended to use it.

Such a fix would imply that either the MBA isn't putting out enough power on its USB ports, or that the device is somehow incompatible with Intel USB controllers. The former would be really weird since Apple's USB ports are designed to provide enough power to charge an iPad, while the latter would be weird because most USB controllers are Intel.

If it works for you then that's great, but as a techie I'm not sure I like the long-term implications.

I'm not anxious to spend $30-40 for a usb hub that I don't really need so I'm open to any other suggestions.

How did you get Apple to sell you a new Air with Lion on it? Was it a refurb?

I didn't do anything. It just came with Lion with a free upgrade to ML. Brand new, not a refurb.

An update for anyone interested. Hooked up the i1d2 puck via a usb 3 hub to the MBA (as suggested by someone on the dpreview forum) but no luck. The puck is detected in the System Profiler but not by the i1d2 software. Sent an email about this to X-rite help desk but no response. Any ideas still appreciated.
