Trouble burning DVD-RW

I used to use DVD-RW to back up files on my laptop. However recently I tried with some old discs and the burning process failed. I've just purchased new ones and am having the same problem. If I try to burn in Nero, the burning process fails almost straight after formatting, if I try in windows I get the message 'Files can't be burned to this disc because it is write-protected'.
Does anyone have any idea why it's doing this and what I can do to fix it?

Try Ashampoo Burning Studio 9. Free trial. http://download.cnet.com/Ashampoo-Burning-Studio/3000-2646_4-10041527.html?part=dl-61683&subj=dl&tag=button

Try cleaning the inside of the drive with a blowdryer on cold setting, or clean the laser with an isopropanol soaked q-tip.

Even the same brand of DVD-RWs vary from batch to batch, and can be manufactured in different countries.

I recently purchased some Verbatim DVD-RWs. Out of the same cakebox my Samsung burner recognizes only about half of them. Burner? Bad QC?

No. It supports both though I've only ever used DVD-RW in it.
I tried again, it started to work but then cut off saying 'power calibration error'

Power calibration issues are often caused by the laser inside the burner itself. Clean it and if you are still getting these errors replace the drive.

My suggestion is to get rid of InCD software. All packet writing softwares are known to cause a lot of problems.

You can burn RW discs as regular DVDs with any burning software. My preferred is ImgBurn
