Trouble booting after BIOS flash

Hi all:

I picked up an iRiver T10 mp3 player yesterday and after many failed attempts at getting Windows XP to recognize the device I decided I may need a BIOS update to get it working. I'm using an Abit AS8-3rd Eye MB which is based on the Intel 865PE chipset. I downloaded the flashmenu utility from Abit as well as the latest BIOS revision (version 18). I was using version 17 which came with the board.

All seemed well after executing the BIOS revision, no worries. Now when I boot I get a "disk read failure" error and I'm asked to ctrl+alt+del to restart. Here are some specs on the system for reference:

Intel P4 3.0 socket775
1GB Dual-channel DDR (512 x2)
WD Caviar 80GB HDD (x2 in RAID 0 array)
3.5" floppy
2 optical drives (if you need to know more about these please ask)

I've checked, rechecked, and checked 3, 4, and 5 times the BIOS and everything looks perfect, but you know how that can be. So my questions I suppose is can there be a problem flashing BIOS when you're using a RAID and the settings might be changed? Shouldn't it be as simple (I hesitate using that word) as changing the settings back if they're altered to match what you had before or could that hose the RAID? I don't mind wiping this comp and starting over but I would prefer keeping it in it's pre-hosed state and continuing with it.

Here's a link to the MB site for my model if you need some more thorough info. Thanks in advance to anyone that might be able to help.

By the way, should I be clearing the CMOS after flashing the BIOS?

When you go into the BIOS, and you go into the section where you can select the boot devices, check to see if your raid array is the first one there. It sounds like it's attempting to read from another drive that isn't there.

The RAID is the first selected. I've tried "fixmbr" from the XP install disk, reverting to the old BIOS version 17, and about ever setting in BIOS I can think of. At the moment I am reinstalling my RAID drivers and then running fixmbr to repair the boot record. I have seen this problem on machines I've work on for clients in the past and this was an easy fix, but go figure on my own machine it would be a bitch. =(

Still open to suggestions from anyone able though! =)

Working fine now. What was happening was it was completely disabling my RAID altogether and reverting back to IDE and skipping the SATA drives completely. It's working fine now and all I have to do is solve the root of this entire problem...the mp3 player. =(
