Trolls, Bad deals and AT

Please consider this:

This is an Ebay deal not an AT FS/FT forum transaction. I am trying to help out this guy but, the post has nothing to do with a deal that took place in the Anandtech FS/FT forum . IMO all troll/ripoff/bad trader threads that do not relate to Anandtech should be immediately locked. Why? Because it looks bad to new people entering the forums when they see all these "troll" threads. It may make a possible new subscriber (ie. $$$ to AT) leave because they feel it is unsafe trading here. We have a special community here of generally very good people who have high ethics in regards to their online internet dealings. Seeing these bum deals from Ebay and other hardware forums, who do next to nothing to protect their buyers and sellers, just presents a negative image of the Anandtech website IMO.

There is nothing wrong with people reporting bad internet dealings in other forums or auction sites to the Mods via email or PM. This could the be added to the stickies that is usually at the top of the forum on who people should be on the look out for.

Just my thoughts.

It should probably not be in Forsale/Trade. OT would be a better place. I think the idea of that post scaring someone off from selling at AT is extreme. I think that the long "Traders to avoid list" tacked at the top does more harm than a single bad trade post to a newbie. I'm not saying that that list should be removed but I think you place to much importance on one thread. Just kick them out of FS/FT..Thats all.

i agree over the past few days I have seen a few troll threads, and in each one a few people with under 100 posts have stated that they didn't feel safe trading here with all the troll threads.

This is happening with more frequency of late, and I dont really know how much they think peeps here can help with Ebay trolls, considering Ebay is a community of millions and millions of members. Fortunately it hasnt gotten way out of hand. I feel kind of neutral however on the total effect of bad deal threads. On one hand it may scare off some potential traders, but then again perhaps a few trolls as well, as they see the tough response given by the overall whole of the community. They see support given by the Troll hunters, the mods, and the majority of the fellow traders. They see the overall majority opinion on how deals should transpire, trader ethic, shipping standards, standards of conduct, and visibility of an overall stance to "do the right thing". They see people being banned for misconduct, and general dishonesty.

This in the end, may have an overall good effect, ruducing the need for future troll threads, cutting the workload on the mods, and the troll hunters. I could be wrong, but thats just how it appears to me in general. IMHO

If this were a static community, basically all the same members with little growth, these threads would likely be un-necessary. However with thousands of new members every month, hundreds of potential new traders jumping aboard, it often has to be brought out, simply because of general ignorance, disregard or misunderstanding of our trader rules and standards of conduct and trading practices.

What was decided on this? There are two new ebay troll threads on the front page right now.
