Remember the Satanic Temple, which performed a ritual to turn Fred Phelps’ dead mother gay? They are still at it, now in Oklahoma. The Satanic Temple has filed the papers to put up a memorial on statehouse grounds, next to the state’s display of the 10 Commandments. They are doing this by citing Okla.’s religious displays legislation, signed into law in 2009. And they are absolutely serious about it. According to their press release:

The Satanic Temple, an established New York City-based religious organization, has offered to donate a public monument to Oklahoma’s Capitol Preservation Commission for display upon Oklahoma City’s capitol grounds. Described as an “homage” to Satan, the purpose of the monument is to complement and contrast the Ten Commandments monument that already resides on the North side of the building. The donation offer has been submitted and is currently awaiting the commission’s reply.

I'd be happy with either the outcome where the monument is put up, or equally if this goes to court and the nonsensical religious endorsements are all undone.

I expect for some here the irony will be lost.

Here is the difference - the people behind this religion are not satanists, they are just anti-religion activists with nothing else to fill their meaningless lives.

If this group is serious, I'd like to see some of them travel to the middle east and promote their values. They'll learn real quick just how unjust the U.S. is.

So as long as the US is better than the worst shit hole you can think of, we're a-okay?

No difference. dipshit. It's called "equal protection of the law." It would be patently unconstitutional for a law to be passed that granted benefits to religious groups that weren't also available to non-religious or anti-religious groups.

Shouldn't be a bit of irony over this -- they must be more than welcomed to do this under law.

All that's really wanted is a court battle to ensue so that Satanists could then say: "hey, you can't endorse one group over another, so all should be taken down to be fair" because they don't really want a monument -- they want the religious monuments taken down.

Clever tactic, however, the proper thing to do would be to allow this and support the law not matter WHO wants to erect a monument. This would essentially call the Satanists bluff because, after all, they really want to fight...I don't think they care about a monument, IMHO.

:\

EDIT: And if they're not bluffing, so what? Faith shouldn't hinge upon whether or not a monument stands as "sacred" apart from those of other religious/non-religious groups.

Hmmm I bet the chicks in it are very hot but on the other hand they probably are the ones that you don't want to fall asleep next to.

You know enough satanists to make this judgment?

A clever troll really. I don't know much about Satan, but you would think Christians and Satanists would have more parity, seemingly cut from the same cloth and all.

Well, what tickles me about this whole issue as I was reading other websites is a common theme of "if we can't have ours, theirs should be taken down", instead of "if they can have theirs, we should be able to have ours too"...the former being all exclusive and the latter being all inclusive.

Don't need a PhD to see what their true motives are.

Except they are not a religion - that's the difference. They are more akin to a club. Interesting how you resort to insults to win internet arguments. Everything is unfair given a certain perspective. Deal with it.

I know enough about common sense to see things for what they are.

You are focused on the outcome, so the means don't matter to you.

The government should absolutely be more discriminating over who they acknowledge is a religion.

You baited a troll thread. Congrats on your part. I hope you are proud of your ego. Go celebrate tonight with your friends over your internet victory.

seems to me the dictionary doesn't agree with you.

the best part about your post is when you throw in "deal with it", which it seems you're having trouble doing.

I say allow it, I just hope the group doesn't get too butthurt when the majority of residents ignore the memorial and their message.

It would be an interesting tourist attraction, especially for people interested in the Constitution and American history.

my question is Satanism a federally recognized religion if so let'em put it up, if not deny it.
