That was pretty good. I was like, "oh shit they're both dead" when they started rolling off the roofs. Somehow they managed to not even be phased. I was surprised.

That "bully bird" was obviously defending its children, possibly a chick that fell out of the nest. It righteously sacrificed itself in hopes of allowing its offspring to mature and live a full life. Would some mangy piece of shit city cat with a billion crack babies do that? Nope. It'd abandon them.
The bird chick starved to death due to it's parent's bullying action.
Bird chicks are not independent, unlike kittens which are.

I actually raised a crow when I was around age 15. He was about to be eaten by my cat Felix, but I foiled his attempt. It was definitely a difficult animal to raise (messy, crazy food requirements), but I couldn't believe how smart it was. Great pet up until the day he felt he was ready to fly away.

I had a crow in Germany steal a unopened can of tuna out of my ruck sack. It was my lunch too! We watched the fucker fly off with it in his mouth.

Looks to me the bird was trying to interrupt the fight, not start it.

Yeah, that "bully" was a mocking bird and if you get near a nest or chick, they will dive bomb you until you finally leave. We had a nest of them one spring in a holly bush and when I mowed the front lawn, I was constantly being dive bombed.
All spring they both would buzz me and shriek at me. After a month or so they stopped and tolerated me.
We have them in the same spot every year now and no more hit and runs. They have accepted me. :D

Agreed, even though, as was subsequently pointed out, by dying the mother ended up dooming her offspring. She risked her life for her chicks, and lost.

You should have stopped there, though.

You obviously have zero actual experience with the scenario you are imagining from behind your keyboard, or you wouldn't have posted something so stupid and so generally wrong.

I don't know if it's a crow, but there are stories about them that I guess you'd call urban myths.

There have been reports that they will pick up lit cigarettes in their beaks and actually smoke them. I'd love to see photos but I've never found any. The legend is portrayed in the animated cartoon characters of Heckle and Jeckle who are often seen smoking cigars.

Crows can recognize individual humans and teach their offspring and each other about people who are nice or not nice to them!!!

i heard the crows in dumbo were racist

The crows themselves weren't racist, but the depiction of the crows in Dumbo was the epitome of the casual racism that used to be the norm.

These old Disney movies are a little bit like your aging Uncle Frank. Honestly, he means well when he points out that Will Smith is "well-spoken."

In this 1941 classic, Dumbo the flying elephant runs into a band of jive-talking black crows who sing, "I'd be done see'n about everything/when I see an elephant fly!"

Lesson Learned:

Come on, blackbirds acting in a manner stereotypically assigned to African-Americans isn't that offensive. At least they didn't just get some white guy to do his best "black voice." Oh, really? They did? And, they called the lead character "Jim Crow?" Um, hey, look over there! It's a convincing, logical end to this argument!

Best (Worst?) Moment:

So many too choose from. The crows are very specifically depicted as poor and uneducated. They're constantly smoking; they wear pimptastic hats; and they're experts on all things "fly," so it's really a team effort contributing to the general minstrel-show feel to the whole number. You could pretty much pause this video at any second and use it as evidence in your hate-crime lawsuit against Disney.

For its time, though, the portrayal of the crows was almost progressive. The crows band together and help Dumbo learn to fly, so they're counted among the heroes of the film. Remember, this was just a couple of years after somebody introduced a bill to outlaw lynching and congress voted it down. So, you know, you take what you can get.
