Trivia

See if you guys can figure these out. I don't know the answers either. They are posted the following day after they are listed. I'll give them a shot too. I'll post a new question each day.

1. How many (more or fewer) possibilities does a typical mechanical lock have versus a combo lock? Closest noted estimation wins. Don't forget to show your work.

*Hint: typical mechnical locks - used on vaults, masterlocks.... combo lock - they're usually 6 digits ranging from 0 - 9 + the # key.

2. Name the two most popular posthumous pop artists ever. Include the album title too.
-Notorious Big an Tupac-Mchammer

3. Name the 5 approaches used to define the conceptualiztions of deviance.

Its not homework, lol. I am in Honors Pre Calc (Junior year). I guessed the same amount of combinations, but was wrong. I figured 10^6 for the combo and 100x100x100 for the mechanical.

1. ?
2. jeff buckley - sketches (for my sweetheart the drunk)

thats not correct but the best i could come up with

1. 60*60*60=216,000
10*10*10*10*10*10=1,000,000
1,000,000-216,000=784,000
Mechanical lock has 784,000 fewer possibilities

2. Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG

Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG was my guess too. I don't know the albums though. Also, I don't think the mechanical lock is 6!. It is usually 40x40x40 or something like that. mchammer might be close on that one too. The only thing is that you have to count the # for the combo lock.

master lock - 40 number possibities - 40 x 39 x 39 = 60840

combo lock = 11^6 = 1771561

combo - master = 1710721

reiterate on the lock, are we talking about a lock like one you would use in a high school or something? those 0-39 ones with 3 combinations?

Also, the second lock, it's 0-9 and the # key?

Here is exactly what I was told:

"How many (more or fewer) possibilities does a typical mechanical lock have versus a combo lock? Closest noted estimation wins. Don't forget to show your work.

*Hint: typical mechnical locks - used on vaults, masterlocks.... combo lock - they're usually 6 digits ranging from 0 - 9 + the # key."

I tried about 1.7million fewer and it was wrong.

Then mine is right... unless we're talking about a mechanical lock with more than 40 different options...
