Triumph motorcycles?

I've got a chance to buy a 1998 Triumph Trophy 900 in near mint condition.
The owner, who is a pastor of my church wants $2500 for it.
Just curious if anyone has or has ever owned this particular bike, or a Triumph in general.

Is this a good deal?

Triumph Trophy 900

The bike I am looking to buy is blue.

my kneejerk response would be yes, but as I've not had a chance to ride the bike in question, I dont know. I'd imagine the best thing to do is ride it to your local bike shop and have them give it a good once over. 🙂

Then if there's nothing glaringly wrong with the bike, I'd say yes that'd be a pretty sweet deal.

There is actually a bike shop in town that services only English made bikes. I might take it up there next weekend, I'll have full use of the bike then to test it out and whatnot. I know maintainance, repairs will generally be more expensive but its a gorgeous bike at a good price.

I'm hoping someone with some experience on this particular model will chime in.
🙂

His price is much lower than trade in and dealer retail Blue Book prices. Assuming there's nothing wrong with it, and it's the type of bike you're interested in, it'd be a good buy.

What kind of condition are the tires and brakes in?

They appear to be in good condition, I wont have access to the bike until next weekend. Its been several months since I last saw it, but at the time they looked good. Its been garaged since he's had it, a year and a half.
He is co-owner of a collision center, and Ive seen his other vehicles..he keeps them immaculate.

If the new ones are like the older ones (70's) then all the gearing and I believe the clutch is reversed.

Instead of shifting with your left foot 1 down and all the rest up its on your right with 1 up and all the rest down and the clutch is on your right hand as well. Not to mention brake will now be on the left so in a panic stop if your not used to it you will pull in the clutch and smash the geal selector with your right foot and slam into what ever your trying to avoid.
