Let me jump into the topic.

Setup: 2007fp(Portrait view) + 3007fpw(Regular view) + 2007fp(Portrait view) (20" + 30" +20" all from our lovely DELL) Setup look like this

Video Card: Evga 8800gtx + Chaintech P-FX20 256MB Geforce FX5200 PCI Bus (all monitors are hooked up to Digital connector)

Problem: When I played a movie on the 20" monitor then open up World of Warcraft in the 30" monitor. WoW started to lag (it move every 2seconds or so). When I disconnected the 20" from the fx5200 everything is normal and super fast. When I reconnect and enable the 20" from the fx5200 it started to lag again. I've try the vga connector and it still have the same problem.

Drivers: I uninstall all drivers from nvidia, boot up to safe mode and use the Driver Cleaner to remove any left over. Restarted the computer and install the 97.92 for the 8800gtx. After the 97.92 driver is install, I use the cd driver for the fx5200 to install it driver w/out updating the old files to the new (only what is neccessary for the fx5200 to work). After all the reinstalling is done. It still have the same problem.

HELP: I've try all that I can think of to make it work but all have fail. Anybody out there with this setup experince the same problem as I do? The fx5200 card work so I dont' think its the card but I could be wrong. Any help or input is appreciated.

Thank you.

EDIT: add the 7 to the model name

i actually run a VERY similar setup to you.

8800GTS to a 2407, and a 5200 to 2 1975w's (gateway 19" wides)

I'm using the default winxp drivers on the 5200, and 97.92 on the 8800gts (i used the leaked 97.92 drivers from guru3d to manually install the driver for the 8800 without it trying to overwrite the 5200 as well)

i DO get that exact same stuttering in WoW (and other things, for example trying to play the Supreme Commander HD video fullscreened)....

its happened to me both before and after i formatted. however, a quick reboot fixes this problem until an undetermined time. I'm thinking that it might have to do with some games and the way they draw things that messes it up until a reboot, but honestly i dont have a fix for ya.

I think the problem deals with Direct3d modes. When you play the movie the drivers might be reverting to a mode only supported on the FX5200. So then the 8800 is now stuck in this old mode until a reboot.

This likely is only part of your issue, but nVidia still doesn't properly support portrait mode on their old or new cards, regardless of which drivers are being used.
There's no hardware acceleration actually from what i can tell.

So basically it's a big crappy lag-fest & tearing-fest  on the portrait mode displays.

One of my newer threads on portrait mode ghayness w/ nVidia:

Look like me and you are on the same boat. Well, I have called Velocity CS last night and one of techie guy told me to get another 8800gtx in order to fix the laggie problem that I've described. That mean I have to go SLI setup. But as you can see in my sig, I have an Intel Bad Axe II mobo. It doesn't support SLI setup, however it does have 2 PCI-E slot. If let say I get another PCI-E card (not 8800gtx) lower model perhap, would it work? OR I have to get the same card in order for it to work? Anybody with more experience on this please do explain as I have no knowdledge about this.

In reply to ur post, it is true that I do have tearing in portrait mode. The tearing happen in the 20" in portrait mode and it look fine in a 30" in landscape mode. Both of the monitors are connected to a 8800gtx. Look like nvidia is doing something wrong.

Maybe ask Penth how he has his setup.

Who is this Penth guy/gal? Maybe he/she can shed some light for us?

Thank you.

PM Penth. He has a 3007 and two 2007s. I just thought it might be good to ask him since he has the exact display setup. I don't remember exactly what he's doing for videocards though.

(the model numbers have a "7" on the end by the way)

A follow up:

I went out and bought a BFG 7950GT OC PCI-E again it didn't work. Same problem occur. So at this point it lead me to the driver compatible problem. If I read this right from nvidia website, the 97.92 is mainly for 8800 series card and the 93.xx is for anything that 7950 and lower. Which I'm assuming are 2 different drivers. So I'm guessing at this point its on the driver problem and it has nothing to do with pci or pci-e bus.

What do you guy think?

yeah, sorry i didnt see this post sooner.

getting another 8800GTX is completely out of the question in my opinion...not only is it hella expensive, but i dont think its a hardware thing.

i dont know about the portrait problems, i run all 3 of my monitors in landscape (and yes, its incredibly widescreen...4800 pixels wide actually...)

i dunno, seems like i dont have nearly the issues you do. I know my issues were definitely worse when i had both cards running the 97.92 drivers. since ive reformatted not only does virtually all of my graphics card issues (yellow screens in battlefield 2142, same in company of heroes, tons of lag in wow) go away, but the stutter effect seems to not be nearly as common.

id try using the microsoft drivers with your 5200 and manually find your 8800 drivers. i have the extracted files from guru3d if you need em. wont fix your problem i dont think, but might help it a bit.

I run my setup with a 6600GT and my main screen with a 7900 GTO. I don't ever really game though. I could install warcraft 3 (I imagine the engine is pretty similar to WoW) and run a movie on a side screen to see how it works. What format are the videos you're trying to watch in?
