I am running into issues getting the video set up on my new computer.

The monitors are these:

  • Middle Monitor: Dell U3014 (in Landscape Mode at 2560 x 1600)
  • Side Monitors: Dell 2007FP )in Portrait Mode at 1200 x 1600)
And the setup will look like this:

The issues I am running into are:

  1. It looks like NVidia does not support PLP format (well, anyway), so I must do AMD.
  2. Most AMD cards suck power, and my low-power machine only has a 300W PS.
  3. At minimum, video cards call for a 1x6-pin power cable, and I have no PCI power cables.
So, it is looking like I need to get a new power supply. The case I have uses the SFX12V form factor, which limits my choices, so I am looking at this or this.

Now, I see 6-pin and 6+2-pin in video card descriptions, can I presume that a 6+2-pin assembly would be the same as an 8-pin for video card purposes?

Finally, can someone recommend a quiet and fairly low-power AMD video card that would work for me? With this new PS I will have many more choices, although I will need something relatively short form factor.

Any other potential pitfalls from what I am doing?

The rest of my specs are as follows:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI the only AMD cards that support PLP Eyefinity (Gaming) are the 285, 380x and Fury series.

If you just want to game on the middle one, and have the two side ones as extra (non-game) windows, then either AMD or Nvidia will work fine.

Not gaming, just working.

Then any card with 2-3 outputs that can handle 2560x1600 will work for you. Or if you have onboard (can't remember if that thread was yours about the onboard not handling 2560x1600) but you can do onboard to a side one and the dedicated card to the middle and other side.

I'd say just search newegg by cheapest price and look at ones that support dual link dvi or hdmi (or displayport if that monitor has that too).

Both nvidia and amd support PLP, just not PLP for eyefinity/surround (streching screen as one large screen). For work though its better to keep them as separate screens so you can use window snapping easier.

if you are not gaming. any gpu capable of handling triple monitor will work just fine. u simply rotate the desktop on the side monitors.

btw. for working in general. triple landscape works much much better. for the same money - triple 27" 1440p is ideal.
