Triple channel or Quad channel memory

Are there any applications that benefit from triple or Quad channel memory . I understand that dual channel is widely regarded as better than single channel especially for gaming . I gather from various sources that Triple channel and Quad channel offer no performance increase at all . So what is the Problem , the applications are designed only for dual channel ?
