I'm going to embark on this project very soon (probably tomorrow) and I'll post progress here...

I'll be following THIS tutorial to install OSX. As for how I obtained a dev copy, don't ask, BuT I bet you could find one if you knew where to look 😉 .

Here are my current specs:

DFI Lanparty UT 250gb nForce3 chipset
AMD Athlon 64 2800+ (newcastle core)
1GB corsair value ram (DDR 400)
nVidia Geforce 6800 Ultra 256mb (AGP)
Hauppauge WinPV150 MCE tuner card (PCI)
3x 160gb 7200rpm 8mb WD HD's (SATA raid 0 arrray)
1x 160gb 7200rpm 8mb WD (system(s) drive)

Currently just booting WinXP MCE2005

the plan thus far...

1. Continue to read through tutorial, and ask questions of my friend who has already succeded on installing OSX on his pentium M laptop.

2. Resize current windows partition using Partition Magic 8.0

3. Create partitions for Tiger and for vista

4. Install Tiger

5. Install Vista Beta 1

6. post about it...

Pirates are not welcome on our forums. Go away for a month. When you return, another post like this may be your last on our forums.

Wow, I had no idea that OSX was being ported to the x86 platform.....where the hell have I been?

[edit]
I wanna know the hows and wheres! I'd love to put OSX on my laptop....but does it ONLY work with P4s?
[edit2] Now that I think about it...it's probably not legal is it? 🙁

Yup, Steve Jobs dropped PowerPC chips. OSX isn't being ported just now to X86, Apple developed multiple versions of OSX since day one.

No, it's not legal. Unless you're a developer whom Apple has given a development system. Although those are Intel-based there are reports that AMD CPUs and chipsets are successfully running OSx86 (as it's come to be known).

I hope that they eventually just sell OSX as an operating system without tying it to hardware. Apple has a long history of developing good technology and then not knowing how to market it and make it spread. Microsoft is the opposite. Not that they make bad technology, but they're not renowned as innovators. They are good at taking existing ideas, making them marketable and then marketing them successfully, which is in and of itself a very rare and commendable skill.

I neither support or condone piracy, the people that are getting it off of BT are doing so illegally, and that is wrong.

That worked out so well for NeXT.

You mentioned getting it from Bittorrent in your original post. You don't have a license for OS X. You don't have a license to install OS X on a non-Apple machine. That's piracy.
