triple 2560x1440?

So with those cheap Korean 27" panels I want to get a triple setup. As is I have 2 Achieva Shimian panels (Lite version, with only dual link dvi input), and both have been amazing.

So my question is, can the newer GPUs support triple 2560x1440 with a single card? I won't be gaming on this insane resolution, just visualization purposes.
I see displayport output on the GPUs, does that actually support the resolution? I know there are displayport to dual-link dvi cables out there, but does it actually work for pass-through panels like the Achieva Shiman Lite?

Also, does anyone have experience running triple panels in linux? How well is it supported?

Thanks.

All of the current cards can support triple 2560x1440, but DisplayPort is required. This is because no single GPU can drive 3 DL-DVI outputs.

For AMD cards you can have up to 1 DL-DVI output, while NVIDIA cards can have up to 2. So that means you need to use 2 or 1 DisplayPort outputs respectively.

And for what you want to do, a DP to DL-DVI adapter should be fine (expensive, but fine :p ).

You have to get an "ACTIVE" display port (or mini display port) to Dual Link DVI for your triple monitor configuration to work and those things can run about $80 and up.

So Shimian Monitor = $300 + $80 (Active DP to DVI adapter) = $380

For that you might as well get a multi-input monitor like the Nixeus Vue that has a Display Port 1.2 for about $430 to $450 and it comes with a better stand too...

Note that there's no such thing as a "passive" DP to DL-DVI adapter. The mechanism that supports passive adapters only allows SL-DVI.

ok that makes a lot of sense. In that case my third monitor might as well be a model with displayport support then. I guess I'm stuck with Nvidia for now... but I'm using CUDA for doing simulation work anyways.

Thanks a lot guys :)

I don't like to revive an old thread, but just want to show you guys what came out of this whole affair:
dv6zoH
dv6zrn

http://flic.kr/p/dv6zrn
http://flic.kr/p/dvck3Y

Total cost: about $1330:
3x Achieva Shimian, $900
3x Wennow 27in stand: $150
1x Bizlink active DP to DL-DVI adapter: $50
1x Nvidia GTX 660, $230

On a side note, my CUDA simulation runs about 1.5x faster on the 660 vs the 460.

Thanks everyone for your advice!

I don't know whether you can run the setup or not. But anything less than 7970 ghz quad fire or 680 oc quad sli won't be playable at high settings..

Nah, not gaming on it. It's mainly for programming, visualizations, and simulations in Linux, which works really well so far.

Although now that you mention it, when I get time I'm going to try run something like Mass Effect 3 and see what kind of FPS I get, if the game actually supports 7680x1440....

Reading the first post might prove to be helpful bro

Anyway, sexy setup! I just snagged a 2560x1440 myself. It's nice :D

Drool....

(makes note to self while using this 19" CRT with green push that waiting on a 24-30" OLED might not be a good idea....)
