Hello all. I'm going to be attending GDC next month and I need something to toss in front of the big shots at the show to show my work. I was thinking about the iPad 64GB... but then I came to and saw it as what it is, a glorified enlarged cell phone for $700. I've noticed the Archose 7 (at about $170) is just about the same thing, or the Archos 9 (at around $540) is running a (somewhat) full featured Windows 7 and a 9" screen. Either of these seem good for the type of purpose I have in mind. What do you guys think? Are there any other devices similar for the same price or cheaper? I'd like to see more portable android devices at around $200-$250 or a Windows 7 tablet for around $500-$600.

Thanks all for all the help :).

Well the new Xoom from moto (10 inch tablet with android 3.0). and the Moto Atrix (a phone with a laptop clamshell type add-on). Not sure about stuff in the price range however.

I'm looking at this as well, it's more expensive, but it also has a 12" screen and a good sized stylus

I'm not looking for a phone or 3G tablet. There is a reason why I don't have a HTC EVO or Droid... The 3G service plans are ridiculous in price. :/

<_<

....it's 4G

BUT i see your point, paying an extra 30 bucks a month for my unlimited data with my $70 a month plan on my DroidX is a blower. But it works for me.

That might be something interesting to look at. I like the docking station attachment too, not quite as powerful as the HP but a bit more show-offy if you want that sort of thing

I LOVE that! Fantastic!

Yeah, I was actually going to come in here to suggest that (really!). Since it it runs Windows, you won't have to futz around with codecs. That's the last thing that you want to happen at a demo.

Totally. The Archos 9 runs Starter, but Home Premium is a little more substantial yet. Dell also leaves me a little more at ease than Archos in terms of reliability.

Not to mention if you have anything that needs sound the docking station from dell is supposed to be pretty decent.

I think I may get that later. It looks cool, but I don't really see an immediate purpose for it. I'll actually leave it laying on the coffee table in my living room when I'm not taking notes at school. The $550 price tag is great though. I think this looks like the start of full featured budget tablet! :D

You are planning to sell yourself to developers using a media player ? That is really the wrong approach. Instead take the time to put together something and apply through the normal channels. I can't count how many developers I have heard complain about being annoyed by people that try to get a job by doing the 'look at my work' thing. Really put together something short and well done for the job you are interested in and apply through the correct methods. Otherwise you are spending money on something that is going to get a glance and be forgotten about two seconds later. It isn't that developers are cruel or don't care, it is just that after the 100th person does that to you it becomes annoying.

Spend the money on producing a better demo and you will get much more for your money.

Thanks guys. I love this thing.

ModelWorks - It's not so much that I'm forcing my portfolio on them, but it is a very handy way to show them if they ask. I also have business cards and a website. I'm currently working on my new demo though. It's not quite ready for show...
