Do they take into account anything that might happen along the way? Traffic? Weather? Getting attacked and hung up on meat hooks by a weird guy wearing a mask made out of human skin?

You mean like actual time sitting in a car driving? Maybe. That's basically a three day drive. You *could* do it in two days, but that would be unsafe and completely miserable.

Actual time, not counting rest, would probably be in the area of 45-50 hours. There's so many variables that could come into play, especially at this time of the year.
 
Mathematically it's doable. If you had a driving partner and could get some sleep, limited stops for gas and stretching, avg 75MPH would have a few hours to spare.

Would I ever do it? Preferably not.

 
If done by yourself: Don't be an idiot. You're bound to hit some sort of traffic and you'd have to stop to eat, sleep and piss at some point or another.

If done by a small group of friends: realistic, but an underestimate without speeding. You could take shifts driving and stop only to piss and grab a bite to eat, but you'd be miserable and worn out by the time you got there.


Consider that going by actual driving time you won't make it, but by going by clock time you will be within a few hours if you don't stop at a hotel and just have people sleep when they aren't driving.

Either way, airfare is cheap enough that you'd be dumb to not fly, unless you were moving there or something and could fit all your crap in a U-Haul.

Fair enough. Pack some friends in the car, a small cooler with some bottled water (refill when you stop) and some snacks to tide you over.

Taking women = twice+ the stops.
 
Avg 75 mph, yes.

However, you can not get to those speeds due to road conditions & traffic until you your are halfway through PA. Every city that you will go through will drop you to 55-60 unless either late at nigh of crawl & go if you arrive during a rush hour.

West of the Mjississippi, you have speed limits of 70.

You are not going to avg 75 going through the Rockies or within 2 hours of LA/SD
