Trinitron horizontal lines? Opinions please...

Hi again. As you may or may not know, I've been putting together a computer and I've been asking random questions for you all to kindly answer. It's much appreciated!

I customized a computer from Dell, and I bought a 21" Trinitron flatscreen with it. I based that purchase on a few factors, including overall recommendations from a few board members here. But then out of nowhere it was brought to my attention that Triniton monitors have some horizontal lines going through the screen... is this accurate?

My first impression was, "What the hell??" Why is this so? It seems like it would be rather annoying!

The computer is still in "pre-production", meaning I can alter the order if need be. Will someone who has a Trinitron express their thoughts on these evil lines?

Yup, there's 2 faint grey lines going across the screen horizontally. They are most noticable on a white or light backgrounds, but honestly they have never bothered me. I never notice they are there anymore, but depending on how picky you are, I could see how it could bug some folks.

Hey,
It's a very personal thing.. I sorely miss my 17" FD trinintron and recently ordered a new 21" one.. SOME people really hate the lines.. I suggest going to a local computer shop and check out the monitor on various back grounds (open WORD or notepad for an all white background)..

hehe... 😱

Sorry about that.

Another thing: I was thinking about it more... and depending on the severity of how the lines contrast with the rest of the screen... it seems like I would be able to look past them with normal computer operations and even games. But I would be really concerned about playing DVD movies on it. Do they all but disappear, or are they still noticeable during a movie?

There's a 99.999% chance you won't notice it with games or movies that's for sure. I've used trinitrons for years and it has never, ever been an issue. Great picture quality on my current 19" FD trinitron though 🙂

I'm SO curious as to how you came up with that percentage. heh

Alright... well, that's a good sign! I think I'm just going to let it come and see how I like it. If I manage to not be satisfied, I'll act like an inept customer and demand that the lines are a flaw and get a new monitor.

I had a older 19" trinitron I notcied them at first but now I have not even thought of them till I read this thanks... j/k they don't bother me at all anymore.

I bought a 21" and almost returned it until I found out it was supposed to be like that. You will not notice it at all while gaming or watching movies etc.

when i first got my 21" trinitron i heard people mention the lines and then i looked for them and paid attention to them. drove me crazy til i stopped looking for them. if you arent looking for them you wont notice them. i love my flat screen trinitron and would recommend it to anyone.

yep. trinitron FD is some good shiet. The lines are mostly notiveable on pure white. They're extremely thin, somewhere in the range of a half pixel @ 1280x1024 (on 19"). There are other options, but trinitrons basically own in the sharpness + contrast dept's.

You won't notice after a while, the quality of the monitor is that great 😉
If you're really worried, find a retail store that carries Trinitrons and look at them for a while.

Ok, I CANT stand those 2 line. In game or in movie you wont see them unless you search for them but if your like using your computer for surfing the web or word you're going to see them all the time.
Try LG Flatron for a perfectly flat screen but with no line or Samsung Syncmaster , not perfectly flat but has no line and is really sharp on image quality.

don't notice em until i bother looking on a bright white screen. they are worth the picture quality they bring

Well what I mean by that is most movies and games won't have you staring at a bright white background. I only notice the lines when looking at a static light colored image. Most movies/games won't have that. I've watched movies on one before, never noticed it. I have a TV card and never notice it there either.

I have had a Mitsu 2060u 22" for over a year and wow look at that, I just noticed that there are two lines there just like the Trinitron!

They must not be very important or noticeable for me to just now notice them.

J/Kidding........you'll get so used them that they will disappear, I promise.

I had to look and make they were still here on my NEC FE700 monitor. I ahd forgotten about them completely until you mentioned something about them.

This varies between people.

I've used my fair share of Trinitrons, and I absolutely hate those lines, many(most) others don't mind them.
I looked long and hard for a good non trinitron monitor cause of this.

But they never annoyed me while playing games though, so if that's your primary concern, no problems 🙂

Dammit I forgot about them for 5 years until you just brought them up! 🙂

You really don't mind nor really notice the until someone brings it up.... then 5 minutes later you forget about them until someone mentions it again.
