ive never used trillian before and i was thinking about trying it out.

1. is the buddy list really that jagged? screenshots its not smooth at all. that would bug the heck out of me.

2. what features of AIM/ICQ does it not support?

3. are there ads?

4. how is the resource usage? i know ICQ hogs up quite a bit by itself.

5. if i dont use MSN messenger or Yahoo! Messenger do I have to have a 0/0 on my contact list or can I remove that?

i think thats it. thanks for any answers.

ok. i installed it myself and i can say that i dont like trillian. i cant move my windows around on the screen without them skipping and jumping when i have trillian opened. i dont like to see options for yahoo or msn messenger when i dont install them. while its a neat idea, theres a lot of waste for options for instant messaging software i dont have installed. plus with my ICQ and AIM lists being so long, its just hell to look for contacts.

what system are you running? curious on why you're getting skipping on your windows....

as far as the other messenger services... i just ignore them, i don't see a problem w/ options "being there" ... they are separated in the preferences anyway.

as for the enourmous list... can't help there ;) make a suggestion.. i believe there are quite a few ppl w/ the same concerns.. maybe an option to switch lists when you click on a service or something.

Trillian works nicely. The following AIM things do not work:
No buddy icons.
No sending and receiving text with different fonts and colors. You can set the font in the window though, but that is local only.
Adding buddies in trillian won't update them on AIM, but trillian will read your AIM buddies.

Helps?

EDIT: I stand completely corrected. These things have been implemented by now. Upgrading at this moment...

im running win2k on a p3 800 with 384mb of ram. its not my system thats the problem. transparency just hasnt been done well with any program in my opinion. ive played with a few and they just make my windows skip around when i move them.

hrm.. i have transparency set to 20% on the list, and 10% on my chat windows... no slow down whatsoever. but it's not perfect, but works nicely. any yeah, i wish transparency worked better in windows...

btw, buddy icons do work... for aim anyway.

Inguyen, yes you are right buddy icons work. As you can see I had already edited my post saying I had not tried the new version yet.

So, now the new version is on and WOW!!!!

It works perfectly for me now, but I disabled transparency for now - when moving windows around, it takes up quite some CPU time.

whether i have the transparency on or not, i still get jerkiness of windows. trillian just isnt for me. its got just as much bloat as the original programs imho. i definitely see how people could like it though.

I like it. I think some of the jaggedness might be because the picture was blown up a little.

Anyone figure out how to get Trillian to dock on the side of the screen? To lock in place and have other programs not display under the Trillian buddy list?

When I was using AIM, it would lock on the right-hand side and when I opened a program, the new program would not display behind the AIM list at all. When maximized, it would fill all of the screen that wasn't the AIM list.

Am I explaining myself correctly? I can't get Trillian to dock in the same way. I'd like to be able to have programs maximized so I'm not missing anything behind the Trillian window, but I don't want to have to keep switching back and forth to see who's just logged on or off.

One thing is that I have the "enable docking (taskbar entry must be off, see below)" checked and "show taskbar entry (updates on reload of Trillian)" unchecked as required. I've closed the program and opened it again, too. When I move the buddy list where I want it, the list doesn't dock!

Nik (thanks in advance)
