I'm graphinc sine waves and I have a question. I am plotting points right now using tables of X and Y = sec X. To get secant on my Ti-83+ I have to use "1/cos(x)". No problems here at all. My question is when I got to zero, I input "1/cos(0)" into my calculator, and got "1". I expected a zero. Can anyone explain how the secant of 0 is 1?

BTW this is in radians, if it matters.

In pure mathematical terms, you cannot get 0 from dividing 1 by anything. And cos(0) = 1, so 1/1 = 1. What's not to get?

On a unit circle, the value of the x-variable is the cosine of the angle; therefore, when the angle equals 0 radians, the value of x is 1.
