Just bought a couple of 295x2's but out of curiosity would it be possible to trifire one with one of my existing 290s?
I intend to go quadfire but probably will need new PSU as its seems a puny 1300W won't cut it any more so will tinker about until new PSU arrives.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 1300 Superflower design will drive them, but to answer your question yes, you can trifire with a 290.

Thanks, I will try and power them with the EVGA 1300W PSU I have but several reviews show them sucking over 1300W at the wall so I suspect I will be getting a 1600W PSU this week. Re;The 290/295x2 trifire I assume the 295x2 will run at 290 specs.

Thanks for the link I reckon I will try them on the 1300W PSU and see if anything blows up or catches fire.

More details on what you want to run and monitors and stuff please. Triple monitor or 4k?

The 295x2 X2 getup I think will fit in 1300w quality PSU

You'll be doing this on socket 1150?

I'm on Dell 2560/1440, I want to go 4K, playing Arma 3 and more GPU is always better as is CPU. I'm already with 3x290 but think I can squeeze more.

I don't think PCI Express 3.0@8x for two 295x2's will be a problem, but it's worth digging into for 4k res. I know the communication runs over PCI Express and that for 290x in crossfire there is basically zero performance drop with x16 and x8 operation. Haven't seen anything specific for 295x2 crossfire on 1150 running 4k res.

In any regard, it will be faster than trifire where driver and game support is there. [H] noted in a review that they had performance issue in BF4 with mantle.

BF4 scaling
There is a bit of an improvement at this higher 4X MSAA setting. AMD R9 295X2 CrossFire is a better 24% faster than a single AMD R9 295X2 video card. This is still horrible scaling though. It seems Quad-GPU needs a lot of work in BF4. It is simply not functioning well. Keep in mind these are very GPU dependent situations, so this is not the fault of our CPU being able to keep up. Plus, we are using Mantle which alleviates CPU bottlenecking, or is supposed to anyway.

They also noted an Enermax 1350w PSU was not enough for dual 295x2's.

Personally, if you've got the 4770k up to 4.7 and want more power then if there is not a why not (I don't think there is) then why not go quad gpu over 295x2 + 290.

For 4k you'll need as much power as you can get.

Agreed I think overall the rig will run cooler (all or most gpu heat going out top) Power is only concern.
