Tried Watercooling-no leaks, now computer wont even get to POST?

Hey guys, I just tried my hand at watercooling my computer. After 24+hours of leaktesting, I thought it would be okay to see how things ran with H2O. Things started fine, nothing out of the ordinary, downloaded MBM5 to check on temperatures and surfed the web for about 15 minutes. MBM5 had to restart the computer to be able to work, so I let it do its thing. As soon as the computer reboots and gets to the desktop, it just shuts off. I let sit, thinking that the CPU is overheating and try it again about 15 minutes later. It made it to the desktop, saw the temperatures from MBM and they were within their limits 38-40 and then it just shut off again.
This time the computer will not even POST. It will start up and after 5 seconds it will just turn off. And that's where I am now. Checked the CPU block and it was on their evenly no AS5 on the board or anything. And still it wont even power up.

WOuld there be any sign of putting too much pressure on the CPU core? Crap crap crap...
Well anyone want to buy a watercooling setup? 😛
(DD RBX, DD GPU Block, BIP, VIA1300)? I guess I'll be looking into a new CPU?

THanks for any help!

Pull the memory and start up - do you hear beeping? If not, then it's likely the motherboard's had it.

However, you might also consider the PSU- what brand & wattage?

I pulled the memory, and I didnt hear any beep. *Starts up, HDD spins, turns off* THat quick. My PSU isnt that old it's a 350 watt FSGroup or something. So my motherboard may have bit the dust? 🙁 I need ALL THE HELP I CAN GET! 🙁

I just RMA'd a neo 2 Platinum...same deal. I woke up one morning, hit power, drives/fans spin 1/2 second then nothing. I tried to start it on a box with nothing but the cpu/and PSU conectors. Got nothing. I also got no beeps when I took out mem or video....sounds like a similar issue.

I Got a new board and everyhtings fine. Try the box thing.....

Well I think this has outlived it's warranty, so no RMA'ing 🙁 What do you mean "on a box" just take the mobo out and set it on a box, and not screw it into the case? I guess I"ll try that, because I'm gonna take out all of my watercooling crap anyways. Bah, what a waste of money.

ANYONE HAVE SUGGESTIONS FOR A NEW MOBO THAT WORKS WITH A BARTON 2500+? And will easily let me raise the FSP? THANKS!!! 🙂

Seeing as I've never heard of your PSU manuf, it actually putting out 350 watts is pretty much out of the question. Just because the sticker says it does, doesnt make it so.

Try with the water cooling out of the picture (air cooled) if it starts and works, its likely a PSU issue

The pump is run off of 112 volts, not the PSU. So the PSU is using less power than usual ( only 2 fans vs 6) So I'm a bit unsure of that. It worked flawlessly for about a year now. I just dont understand why it would work for 15 minutes and then not work.

My rig as it is right now:

350 FS Group PSU
Barton 2500+
ASUS A87NX-Deluxe
Crucial PC 2700 512 DDR RAM
BBAti 9800 Pro
and a very frustrated owner. 😛

If the psu is "FSP Group" then its a Forton and is one of the best psu's. I used to have the 350W model and it was excellent.
I agree that taking everything out and setting the motherboard up on a non-conductive surface, like a motherboard box, would be a good thing to try. You probably just have a short somewhere. Set it up with only the cpu, watercooling, ram and video card/monitor. Start it up and go into the bios. If that works then start adding your components one at a time, starting with your hard drive, and test them each as you go. If everything works, set it up in your case again.

Yes my PSU is from FSP Group, so I'm guessing it's A-OK. I have to head to work right now, so it will have to wait til tomorrow. I already took ALL of the watercooling off (too much of a friggin hassle) and I'll put the stock heatsink back on and see what happens from there. Keep the suggestions coming pleaaaaaaase!!!!! I'd rather not spend another 80+$ on another motherboard, but I have to do what I have to do. Thanks again guys for all the suggestions!! <3

This sounds to me like maybe you don't have anything plugged in to the CPU fan connector so the system
is shutting down to protect itself.
One system I worked on had to have something (a fan) there regardless of how the BIOS was set.

Could that be the problem?

asrock k7s8x runs my barton 2500 to 3200(2200mhz) easily, but make sure you have quality ram(mine is crucial pc2700) fsb is at 200....no problems for a very long time(about a year or so)

Full hardware-level shutdowns are due to overheat most of the time. Whatever MBM says, you should still double-check that your block is not getting jacked up at one end by the raised, solid-plastic end of the CPU socket. If there's a shim between the block and the CPU, then if it's a little too thick it may be lifting the block off the CPU too. Shave it down by sanding it, perhaps.

Bigger picture: have you tried it with air-cooling to see what happens? The A7N8X Deluxe is not a board that will refuse to run when there's no CPU fan on the CPU_FAN header, unlike some brands (SOYO being one of the biggies).

Well I tried plugging a fan into the CPU FAN 1 on the mobo, did not make a difference. It still wont do crap. I havent had the time to pull it out of the case yet. . All of the watercooling componants are off, just the PSU,ram, Videocard, and CPU are connected- still no difference. I'll take the mobo off tomorrow, and just try different things to see if anything helps.

I'm just so flippin' confused because it was working just fine and dandy until I installed mbm5 and had it restart. Then it wont even turn on. Bah...

Is there still any possibility that it could be the cpu?

LOL, on a side note, what are some good, quiet air-cooling setups? 😛 hehe

and OMGoddess, want a quality watercooling set up? Give me a PM. 😛

Yup, that's a huge help. 😛

I use one everyday at school me thinks. A room full of them (20+) and it's still whisper quiet in the whole room. 🙂

Anyone else have some possible problems? Why would it work for 15 minutes, and then not again!? !!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Thanks 🙂

For a quiet air-cooling setup, there's Thermalright, Zalman and Alpha to name three premium brands. Too bad Thermalright doesn't make the SK-7 anymore, that was a nice value... 🙁

Thank you mechBgon, the Zalman HS's look quite tasty and quiet.

TTT, any new suggestinos would ROCK! ! 🙂

Get the Zalmans. Also get a Abit NF7-S V2.0 . Best overclocking board there is for Socket A (the DFI Infinity is good too.)

UPDATE!: K, after taking the board out of the case, removing all of the non-essentials, it DID bootup. Got to BIOS. I turned it off, reconnected the CD drives, and restarted. Got to the BIOS, checked over my old settings that were still correct and looked at the BIOS CPU temperature was about 98C or something. And then just shut off. The HS is on there and the fan spinning at 4440rpm...but 98C is WAY too high. That's why the computer shut off (C.O.P.) But the HS is on there correctly and yet it is still way too hot.

I'll go fiddle with the HS sitting, and re-update again. Well at least my mobo isnt dead. 🙂

The heatsink and CPU must not be making good firm square contact. Check the plastic frame surrounding the CPU socket, and make sure it's firmly fastened to the board, whether that's with a screw at each end or with four barbed prong things. Then confirm that the heatsink is latching down into the receptacle properly.

Yup, that was the problem mechBgon! Thank you guys SOOO MUCH FOR all of the suggestions! It's running great now. Cooler than ever ( because I'm not OC'ing it) Now I just need to sell my Watercooling stuff, and pick up some highend HS's for my CPU and 9800! 🙂
