Tried to test my power supply with paperclip while still plugged into mobo

I didn't think to unplug my power supply from all devices/motherboard before I tried to power it on with just a paperclip to test it. I was mainly just wanting to hear the fan to see if a noise I was hearing was coming from it but I did it in a hurry and didn't unplug the rest of it. The machine sort of turned on for a second then off. It seems to be okay but did this potentially cause any harm? Obviously the 24pin atx connector was not plugged in while I did this.

nothing happend.

your hard drives cd drives would turn on but the cpu would be dormant.

and your gpu's wouldn't feel a a thing.
