Tried to plug in a USB keyboard into an eSATA port...

I was half asleep this morning and tried to plug in a USB keyboard into an eSATA port. I didn't force the plug in, but would this have caused any issues? I think the only parts that could have touched were the housing of the USB cable and the housing of the eSATA port--it looks like they were designed to be fool (me) proof?

Found an old eSATA drive and plugged it into the eSATA port, and verified that it was working. Am I good to go?

They have new combo ports now. You can plug in USB or eSATA. It's pretty cool.

Mine is one of the regular eSATA ports, not a combo USB/eSATA (eSATAp?) port.

Hmm. My motherboard manual says "DO NOT insert a different connector to the external SATA port". I interpret this to mean "Do not force a different connector into the eSATA port", right?

I mean, if you try to plug in a USB cable into an eSATA port, and it doesn't fit, but you don't force it, there should be no damage, right?

Just checked my eSATA ports with USB connectors. Physically, it can't be done without breaking the plastic housing around the eSATA port. My laptop has a combo USB and eSATA - but that has a unique housing that allows the wider USB connector to fit it.

Unless you really applied serious force and cracked something, you are good to go.
