So I see a sign by the university rec center - a big plywood sign saying "blood drive today" with a huge arrow...

I enter, and it was around noon, and it was just getting underway. So I say - "here is my red-cross card" (there was no line). The three girls sitting at the table said "do you have an appointment"? I said no - I just saw the sign.

They then said "We have an opening at 5:30"... I said that I couldn't make it then. So they give me a scrap of paper with a web site for the red cross - and said that the next blood drive is in late October - and to make an appointment then... WTF????????

I am working on my 3rd gallon of blood - I have a well used donor card - this is the first time I'd ever been denied !?? They weren't even busy!?

I should have asked why they even put up a sign then! :| - - :(

Should have sliced your arm open and sprayed it on them... then yelled "You're getting it whether you like it or not!"

Then when you start to pass out, made sure to have muttered "thank God we have plenty of blood to give me from all these kind donors!"

That's nuts, we have blood mobile's on campus every day, you just walk up and give blood.

That's what happens when you get moron local volunteers to help out. I hate to say anything bad about the Red Cross, with all of the good they do, but they rely too heavily on people who have no clue, and those girls are the perfect example. Any halfway intelligent nurse or actual Red Cross employee wouldn't dragged you to a chair immediately and jabbed that needle right into you.

yes, you should have asked them why they even put up a sign. how ridiculous that they are advertising for blood donations and then turn people away.

at least the sign should have said: BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
