Tried non-homogenized milk for the first time.

This stuff taste 100 times better than that over processed milk we see everywhere. If you local market sells non-homogenized organic milk then I highly recommend you try it.

I am trying to find a place that sells raw organic milk, I hear that is even better tasting than pasteurized non-homogenized organic milk.

Meh. There really isn't much "processing" with homogenization. They're just forcing the liquid through a very small hole at high pressure, thereby homogenizing the globs of fat.

It would kinda suck to get one jug of milk that was like 75% fat, then another that was like skim milk...and everything in betweeen.

It most likely tastes better because it came from a small, organic farm.

eh.. the floaty fat really doesn't do it for me.
Yeah...when I think of "milk", I shouldn't also be thinking "chewy" at the same time.

The first time I had raw milk, which was at my parents' house when I was visiting, I didn't know it was raw to begin with. First thought and action: Spit it out, and poured it away, because it tasted rancid, and had these lovely little fat boogers all over the place, like it was a few weeks past its expiration date.

Nope, apparently that's normal.

As for where to buy it, I don't know if it varies by state, but in PA, I think you can only buy raw milk at small farm stands, and it's going to be labeled "Not for human consumption."

I'll be sticking with my bastardized, processed, "doesn't taste like cow sweat", store-bought milk.

It most likely tastes better because the OP convinced herself that it should.

Fixed. Or possibly because organic milk usually uses a different pasteurization process that makes it taste different.

I swear milk in Canada tastes thinner than the ones from Argentina...US milk is even thinner. By thinner I mean watered down. I know it is not watered down, it just tastes that way.

Dont confuse homogenized with the types of milk . Normally when you get milk from a cow you allow it to sit in the bucket a bit so the milk fats separate into layers then you pour off the layers to get things like cream, milk fat for butter/cheese, skim milk. I think some have the idea that whole milk comes from that cow like it is in the store :)

Homoginizing milk was necessary for store sales because if milk sits for long periods of time without the process fat will float to the top. You can reverse the process somewhat by freezing the milk. After it thaws the milk will separate back into liquids and fats. Homogenizing does change the taste because it breaks up the way the fat and proteins are connected. Homogenized milk would make me sick as a child but I could drink raw milk and it wouldn't effect me.

Pasteurized milk is okay but the best tasting milk uses UV sterilization. It is very hard to find right now but it is becoming more widespread.

Actually it is sort of watered down. Milk has to have a percentage of fat based on if it is whole milk, skim milk, etc. Fat though is only part of what makes milk thick or thin. The other thing is casein . Casein is used in cheese production and so some manufacturers remove as much as they can from the whole milk to increase profits. . By lowering the casein but keeping the fat at the levels for whole milk it doesn't break the rules but it will taste more like skim milk.

Milk tastes best when it's had Cocoa Puffs sitting in it for about 10 minutes.

Warm and chocolatey.

I'm old enough to remember when the milkman delivered the milk, it came in glass bottles and had the cream on top. The cream got poured off for the adults to use, or sometimes we had berries and cream. We called it "top milk" and it was good for sick people and the elderly. We got the rest of the milk once the cream was poured off. No, it didn't taste like skim milk.

When homogenized milk became legally required, I got sick from drinking it.

I don't drink much milk, and I don't use it much - I buy a quart every so often, but end up throwing most of it out. I use cream in my coffee/tea.

The one I bought also came in a glass bottle, and from what I am told that also improves the taste.

Plastic leeches into the milk in other containers causing an off taste. Even so called cardboard containers have a plastic lining so they are still contaminated by plastic.

This also makes it safer as you are not getting those toxic plastic chemicals into your body.

The only issue was it was a bit more pricy than even the regular organic milk, but I worth it.

Is there any evidence for this plastic leachy stuff, or is that just hyperbole from unconfirmed sources?
(Besides the confirmed stuff from BPA in polycarbonate.)

I think all plastic leaches crap, and outgasses chemicals. Whether that's good or bad I don't know, but I'd consider it less than ideal in any case.

Once you get used to the taste of pasteurized milk the raw stuff can be tough to handle. What is ever weirder is drinking it warm right out of the cow. You have to watch you don't get your head kicked.

If you've never sucked the milk straight from the cow's udder, you don't know what you're missing. It's 1 million times better than that organic crap!

There is an easy way to tell which brands of milk are likely better in their content. Hold it up to the light. Dairy milk has an almost yellow color. The whiter the milk the more water content it has.

I am trying to find a place that sells raw organic milk
1. Drive into the country, find milk cows grazing
2. Enter pasture
3. Latch on (note, keep an ice cube in your mouth if you do not like it warm). Also, be prepared to move quickly, do not want to get trampled. Make sure it is a cow and not a bull first.
