A friend of mine just called me with a problem he has run into. He said he was trying to get an XP machine sharing with a 2000 machine. He told me he ran some wizard to enable file sharing and now the 2000 machine is asking for a login name and password. He said prior to that there had been no login/pw on the machine. Does anyone know if there is a default login/pw or how to bypass this? If you need more info please let me know.

Thank You,
J

simple file sharing is a start...

share level security is another place...

but we really need more info, exp version of XP, Pro or Home.

I really hate Home's file sharing setup. it's craptastic!!!

I did a quick look for file sharing, and couldn't find a way to disable the simple file sharing, and do user/group level security on a folder. I wiped and put pro back on quick.

He told me he's trying this right now and if it doesn't work he'll get back to me. Right now he's just trying to get into the 2K system.

Yeah he tried all the standard things like that.

Anyway, the problem is solved. That little program let him reset it and then he was able to get back in.
