Tried 2 15" subwoofers in my car

I have about 800w going to them. The bass can be overwhelming at times so I have to constantly readjust the bass level but wow, the impact from the bass feels awesome. I especially like the feel from the kick drum of rock songs. The boom from rap and hip hop gets annoying real quick though.

Just wish I could get this level of impact from my single 10".

Talk about horrible My single 10w3v3 in a 0.9cuft sealed box (200ish Wrms) is enough to feel it in my chest from the kick drums. I can't imagine 2x 15s. What kind of amp?
Obviously you don't like sound quality, doesn't that level just rattle the shit out of the windows and body panels in the car?

Depending on how they are designed, 15" woofers are a little too specialized for my tastes. If I had 2x15" subwoofers, 2x8" midwoofers, and several midsize and tweeters and a good crossover, they would be great but for a typical car installation which only has some 4" - 6.5" woofers, 2x15" subs only bring out the sound below 40hz.

Now there are some 15" out there that can do really well throughout the entire 20-100hz range but it's pretty rare.

For the typical car audio setup, if I were to simply extend upon the existing installation, I would go 12" max.

My dream setup would be 2x15" (REAR), 2x8" (FRONT), 4x4" (EACH CORNER), 1x6.5 (CENTER FRONT), and 4x1" tweets (EACH CORNER). Crossovers would be set to flatten the entire frequency range from 15hz-22khz.

Why would you use rear speakers at all? (other than subs since they aren't really directional)

I was only trying them out since my friend wasn't using them, not something I'd go with everyday. Besides the headliner there isn't much rattling since I've dampen all doors, rear deck and trunk lid. I'm no audiophile but do I care somewhat about SQ. I run some focal components up front in custom kick panels, elemental designs 5ch amp and a 10" idq sub.

JFC i bet that would blow my window out. Hows your dampening setup? I was considering a number of options to do mine in the next few months.

I had to turn the lows down via my head unit when I had 2 12's in my Firebird running at a combined 1200WRMS. Sometimes it was just overwhelming, but mainly because I was running everything else off the head unit. I had plans to get another amp and components, but I totaled the car. Probably overkill for a hatchback, but the setup looked nice thanks to Subthumps T-tops box.

Soundprocessing and soundstage. Thus my center front speakers. :p

How would rear speakers improve your soundstage? I understand the front center.... Having a hard time getting why anything is better than nothing when nearly all music is stereo. Having a sound coming from behind you (even a time aligned one, or one processed to sound like a distant echo or to shape an environment) can only take away from the illusion that the performers are in front of you. Prove me wrong?

Seems vast overkill. Even one good 10" will give more bass than you can possibly use without ensuring ear damage.

I'm grasping here so bear with me. The total package including speakers would be and HDTV screen somewhere with DTS 5.1 surround. :p

I pulled that out of my ass.

I used to be into stereo upgrades in my cars. Tehn I started buying better cars and realized I didn't need to sink a bunh of money into aftermarket audio to have something listenable.

I've been down the road with 2x15s, then 2x12s, I had a 1x12 in my Frontier. My 87 Trans Am had the best sound system of any car I've had though.
LCD in the dash, Alpine head unit, 1200W amp running 2x12 JL Audio's with components all around driven by a seperate 400W amp. A Stand alone DVD player to feed the LCD. That car was LOUD on the road and standing still.

you can. my friend that owns a custom shop replaced his 2 12" with a single 10" and it actually sounds better. its all in the design, apparently. he has a single down-fire cabinet in the back seat of a ford f150. he has also dynomatted the whole damn cab apparently. you can hardly hear a peep outside if the windows are up, and if you turn it up too much it will split your ears.

I've been thinking about adding a second 10" and 300w Soundstream monoblock to my system. I want a little more impact and pressurization. Would it be better to use a single box, or two separate boxes?

Maybe he's like me, and just doesn't give a shit? I like to be surrounded by music, so I run rear fills.

I just blew a bit over $1k on my car audio, one 12" Alpine Type-R as a sub. I think it is great, any more and it'd be way too much. I'd probably be fine with a 10 TBH, as I barely turn the knob up a quarter of the way.

It really depends on the car. I drive a huge luxury cruiser and everything is over padded inside especially between the cabin and the trunk. It takes a lot more power and sub surface area to get a good amount of bass into the cabin.

make a custom console with two downfire 8" and youll definitely feel the difference. also, with those kinds of installs its hell trying too get most of the sound to come forward through all that padding and seat in there. i pulled all the backing off my cadillac back seat, as well as a couple layers of foam to get it sounding great. had 2 12" in that trunk tho, wasnt too hard to get it loud.

I think, in the right box, you shouldn't have to adjust the bass between different music. I had 2 18"s on a Memphis audio 1100 watt amp and in some songs (not bass heavy ones) you couldn't tell I had 18"s until it went really low. It just blended into all music types

I used to have 2x 18's in an SQL setup off of 2000 watts RMS.... 146.3db with great SQ is a LOT of fun :)
