I have AT&T U-Verse internet with a 2WIRE 3801HGV router. This was just updated because my original equipment finally failed. I had no issues getting any of my computer or devices to connect save one... a Compaq laptop with Windows Vista on it. At first the issue was I was getting the local only/limited connection issue but now the laptop won't even go that far after I updated Windows and the drivers for the networking devices. I've tried everything I can think of such as adding the network manually to the laptop etc... I spent over two hours with AT&T support who were certain that the internal wifi card has failed but the laptop will connect to other wifi networks and even to the home network IF I remove all security. I'm at my wits end here and have scoured the internet looking for ideas to no avail. I've got like 6 hours into this thing already. Can someone lend a hand? I'll post the ipconfig below, thanks in advance.

when you try to get on a secure network are you using the windows wireless management or the software that comes with the driver?

I'm using the windows wireless management.
I tried the fix in that video and I still get the unidentified network/local only connection. This is truly bizarre.

I fixed it.
Despite windows update and device manager telling me that I had the most current driver installed I came to find out I did not. I found it on the maze that is HP's website and updated the wireless driver and presto, it connected.

That's two days of my life I'll never get back. Thanks windows.
