oookeli dokeli, I want to upgrade my rig. You can see "him" in my sig.

What would give me more gaming performance:

Geforce 3 Ti-200 with current rig OR

Voodoo 3 3000 with an Athlon XP 1600, 1GB RAM and Shuttle AK31A(KT266A)

I'm asking cuz I don't have the money to upgrade a lot at the moment. I will upgrade to both sooner or later, but my Q is, from which upgrade would I benefit more, from a gaming perspective?

Thanx

I think it is going to depend mainly upon the games you play. If you play OpenGL games such as Quake 3 or Wolf MP, then you will notice a big difference with the video card. However Direct3D games tend to respond more to faster CPU and memory. These games include Unreal Tournament, Diablo II, Need for Speed. My suggestion though would be to get a faster CPU and memory and then get a GF2 GTS. This is plenty fast for right now. With my Athlon 1.4 and GF2 GTS, it is fast enough that I can have settings at maximum and I do not ever have to worry about frame rates. I would wait on getting a GF3 because most games do not need that type of performance. The game that will need it is Doom 3 and I don't know when that will be out, but it is far off. By then I think better graphics cards will be out and/or the prices of graphics cards will be much cheaper. So I do not think that it is good to go with a top of the line video card right now.

the ti-200 is in Switzerland only about 60$ more than the GTS Pro, and I could afford that. That's about 200$. And I don't think the Ti-200 is a top of the line card.

So would you suggest get a Athlon XP 1600 and a Ti-200, and leave it SDRAM at the moment?
