ok, maybe it's not so tricky, but read one :) so i did my taxes through H&R online about a month ago. filed it electronically and then noticed that some items on the return were not correct (ex: royalties were thrown into rentals). plus, a few deductions weren't taken out like i thought, which in turn made me owe about a G :|

so to fix it, i had to file an amendment, which can't be done online. so i went to the local tax place and had them take care of it. filled out the forms for fed/state with the correct items in the correct places. stamped it and sent it out in the middle of March.

as April 15th nears, i guess i'm just a little anxious to know what is happening. on the H&R filing, i had to get a monthly installment plan because i just couldn't afford what i supposedly owed. but with this amendment, i am actually getting back money.

so my question is, if i don't receive a response by April 15th of any sort, what should i do? from what the tax place said, i just have to wait for my check in the mail. but would the IRS go nuts because of the previous erroneous filing? or would the amendment take over because its a correction and i'm just worrying too much?

cliff notes:
-H&R filed taxes wrong
-Amendment done through local tax place
-waiting for check, 4/15 is nearing, will IRS want money i don't owe from the wrongly filed return?

Call the IRS and ask them, but my experience (which is not much) suggests you should make the payment and let them send it back when they straighten it all out.
