Tricky setup question?

My place has a wireless router. I connect to the internet on my desktop via a wireless card.

I have a laptop as well, but it does not have wireless and the router is not close enough to plug into (someone elses room).

Although my desktop connects via wireless, it also has a wired NIC.

I would like to be able to plug my laptop into my computer and connect to the internet (via the wireless router) that way.

I tried setting up internet connection sharing on the desktop wireless connection, but as the router is already using 192.168.0.1 it would not allow me to. I also bridged the two connections, but this resulted in neither computer being able to access the internet (though the wireless connection remained very good).

How do i physically connect the laptop to the desktop wired NIC? I have a wired router, a switch and two network cables. What should the settings be for this to work.

The router right now is set for DHCP.

Many kudos and thanks to anyone that can figure this one out.

My guess would be that people have no experience with such setting when they can find a Laptop Wireless PCMCIA cards for $10.
