Howdy all...over the years, and through 4 rigs, I've come to the conclusion that I really don't play games all that much anymore. I am looking to get a laptop when school starts, which won't allow for much gaming. But due to the hardware bug I seem to have :), I'll still have a desktop. There is one game, however, that I do enjoy playing...Tribes 2! Currently, my system plays it rather well (see rig link below), but with the cost of the laptop and redirection of desktop duties, I will probably be looking to build a kindof downgrade.

But I still want to be able to play T2! So I'm curious...I know that the game requires quite a bit of video power. One thing I am really concerned about in a new system is noise...so I'm wondering...who has a lower end vid card that runs T2 decently? Probably a GF2MX or Radeon something or other. I'd like to get an All-In-Wonder, but from what I've seen, Windows 2000 ATI drivers suck.

So any recomendations? Video card experience with this game, and preferably Win2k experience, would be really informative....

Thanx,
Jazzman

Well I have heard alot of people have problems running Tribes 2 in Windows 2000 but since Ive only run Windows 98SE I cant really comment on that. My original system that I ran Tribes 2 on was rather low end but it could run it at an ok speed at 640x480 with 16bit color and almost all the graphics turned down. It was an AMD-k6-3 450, 128Mb PC100, and a TNT2. My new system though, a Duron 850, 256Mb PC133, and a GeForce 2MX runs it very nicely. Over 100fps indoors and like 50 outdoors with it dropping to like 20-30 in heavy combat.

I;m running it just fine in win2k, not a problem since the beta patch.

Geofrce mx is about as low as I'd got for a vid card for it tho. My GTS runs it well.

I run a cheap RadeonLE (overclocked of course) and it runs the game fantastic. Like 70 bucks a newegg?

These are what I would consider a minimum spec for Tribes2 & still be playable

Cpu: Duron 850-900 or Cel2 850-900

Video: Radeon 32mb or GF2Mx

Ram: 128mb

Although you can paly it on lower specs I have & would'nt want to.
(GF2MX based on others word ,have'nt tried it myself)
