Tribes 2. Did it live up to expectation? Or a big flop?

Personally I think it flopped.

We used to play Tribes 1 at a local LAN party and we were all looking forward to Tribes 2. When it was first released a couple of guys played it for a few hours but since then, its never been played again.

I thought Tribes 2 was outstanding...certainly better than C&C: Renegade..

T2 is cool, I don't play on pubs anymore, especially with all these different mods, hard to find a standard server. I play clan matches only. After the last patch, things worked great. I think what messed the game up big time were all the unhandled exceptions and bad video card support. Maybe if they did a public beta test beforehand, people wouldn't have been pissed about buying a buggy $40~50 game. The company that made the game doesn't exist anymore and the price is about $15, I think it's worth the $$ if you like big, open battles.

I absolutely loved Tribes 1, and thought Tribes 2 was great, just not very solid. It crashed, couldn't get the patches at times, and ran slow as hell on my 64mb GeForce2.

Overall, I'd say the Tribes series are probably one of the better games of all time.

Tribes 2 is a beautiful game in terms of asthetics. I to migrated from a T1 clan to T2 clan upon its release. The level of problems in the beggining was overwhelming. the game was awesome out of the box (I had a geforce). It was well balanced and beautiful. Then the 3dfx looser's whined and whined and whined and they destroyed the game to accomodate those unwilling to move on. (3dfx was officialy dead at release time of the game). And the tinkering began one bad patch after another. finaly somewhere around 5 mos after release they had a balanced good performing game. At this time Sierra downsized the division that made the game and all perspective was lost. they turned it over to the developers of "designer barbie" or some shiot and the commenced to really messin the game up.
It was at this point I took a leave of absense from my team. I was tired of being jerked around by a bunch of loosers. IE Sierra.
What I wanna say is if you havent ever played T2 in its balanced form. And they have finished screwing it up. Buy it.
I would say it is a good value and good game. buy it and have fun.
I guess I will wait at least 6mos after release before I buy a Sierra title again. I dont need the frustration.

Dynamix is out of business, and the game has some big bugs...so yes, it did flop sorta. The bugs are not gameplay related. It's just bad code that causes the game to crash for some people.

It's the only game I play now though. I love it. Personally, I have no trouble with it at all. But for many folks, "UE" errors occur all the time.

The graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay is awesome, especially when you play with cool people like in a clan.

I say go for it. It's the best!

I like it a lot. I haven't played it lately cause my free time is still tied up with Diablo 2 :).

It was kinda a flop though. It got some bad reviews, had some major crashing bugs, ran slow on most comps. It's better now, but I've never had it crash much ever. Sierra sucks though. Them and EA are suck.

I spent so much time playing Shifter Tribes 1. That was friggin amazin. Fun as hell all the time. When I do/did play T2, I played Shifter. Not quite as fun as Shifter T1, but still a lot of fun nonetheless.

If you've never played Tribes before, it will probably seem confusing cause you gotta select your class and weapons loadout (I still prefer the old menu at the inv station), and if you want to pick turrets or whatever to place. But its an awesome team game because everyone will (hopefully) be playing different roles like pilotings, flag defense, base defense, capture flag, sniping, etc...

But for how cheap the game is now, I'd definitely pick it up if you got the computer to run it and are interested in a team-based, outdoor type game.
