Looks like 2-way SLI is just as good.

More evidence that Tri-SLI is largely a waste of time.
And look at those noise levels under load. :Q

Don't you have headphones for gaming?
if you can spend the kind of money required for TriSLi then you can probably figure a way to make it quiet
---and some of us are not bothered in the slightest with 2900xt CrossFire

It's never a "waste of time" to have more powerful computer components BFG.
Given what I know about you, I'd think you'd be a good candidate for 3 way SLi- would give you a lot of options for your benchmarking and image enhancing AA settings.
You'd be spending the next month doing a writeup for ARSTechnica of the old games you could run 16Xs AA on, and probably have a lot of fun doing it.

I would have to agree here, I have always considered *3-way* a lot more fun than single or dual action.![]()

I don't "need" to play games at all... I WANT to.
And I currently own a single 300$ card with no plans on buying anything more. In fact I Considered that splurging... but if I was sitting there in a mansion getting frustrated at stuttering on my 10,000$ bigass plasma I would have probably bought a 3way sli... The people who can justify a SINGLE 8800ultra can easily justify 3 of them for that extra few percents of FPS...
If its not any faster for one game, big deal, it will be for another...

agreed ... Except when it goes bad ... it really goes bad
:Q
You do not want to be caught in the Crossfire IF it goes very bad
You have to be very careful what you Tri![]()

what? I do realize it... that's kinda the point... they don't need to justify the purchase by saying "ooh I get more FPS on crises" thats the whole point of me saying big deal... so 2x is just as good for game A... so what, it will be for another.
don't hang on to the semantics.
Yes, but even so...Don't you have headphones for gaming?
I'll be doing that anyway - on nVidia?s next high-end single card. You'd be spending the next month doing a writeup for ARSTechnica of the old games you could run 16Xs AA on, and probably have a lot of fun doing it.
