tri-mode vs digital only cell phone

Verizon sells the LG camera phone for something like $80 after rebates right now. They sell virtually the same phone, only without the camera on it and it is tri-mode for $70, whereas the cam phone is digital only. Is it a big deal to have the tri-mode phone? TIA

tri-mode? you mean triple band? if it is triple band i dont see any use for it unless you take it out of the country a lot.

If you don't travel much and your local coverage area is good, tri-mode is uselsss.

I like the LG VX6000 from Verizon but the LG VX4400 (I believe) seems ok but it is only $10 cheaper however it is tri-band (tri-mode?). Anyway I'll probably try out the all digital and see how my connections are. I don't travel much and live in a pretty large community/area.

I travel a fair amount and have the LG VX6000. The only areas I really had a problem is Western MA, coverage there is horrible for all Verizon phones anyways. I drive on I-80 from Utah to PA once or twice a year and rarely have a problem getting a signal for most of the drive.

How can you have tri-mode? there are only analog and digital mode.
You can however have tri-bands, which runs at a different frequency at each band.

Tri-band, dual mode. 1900 and 800 digital, 800 analog.

x-band and x-mode are not the same thing people.

Verizon calls it Tri-mode I believe, 2 digital and 1 analog. I just don't if I'll need the analog. It's a trade off between Tri-mode and no cam or All-digital with a cam.

I don't know about you guys, but my "Tri-Mode" phone from Verizon occassionally goes into Analog mode even in well-covered areas, like Philadelphia. Why? I don't know, but I've experienced the same thing on a couple of drives from NJ to SC along I-95.

Philadelphia has scattered cell coverage in some areas. I have that problem with Sprint. I was looking for an alternate carrier; however, when I performed some test, all failed.
Problem is that some reas in phili have refused to allow cell towers. This results in some dead zones (even analog).

The situation could exist anywhere; The cell carriers may know of these dead zones, however, they will not readily admitt to them.

Between Verizon and Sprint's digital networks I doubt you'll ever need analog unless you're up in the mountains (tho I know there's a push to cover those areas as well).
