Which setup would be better overall at 1920 by 1200? Which one would you prefer?

Frankenfire one of each!!

At your res I would say 5870, if you pimped a 30 inch display tri fire may be better. What game do you play that needs more muscle at 1920x1200 that even needs 5870 xfire?

I just installed a second 5870 on my 920 rig in sig and they scream! Funny thing the three titles I am playing now, dragon age, Borderlands, and prototype were maxxed with a single 5870.

If it were me i'd pick 2 4890's for 330/340$ @1920x1200

but if I had to pick from those two it would be 2x 5870's.

I completely forgot about the prospect of the HD5890 in the near future. Would that be the best option? I'm assuming the HD5890 is going to be around $650, is this assumption correct? Also, I might get a 30" display summer of next year.

30 inch display? ok then I'd go with the 2 x 5870's. The hd 5890 is going to be slower then 2 5870's.

For Crysis Warhead and Stalker Clear Sky, 2 HD 5870's is the sweetspot at 1920*1200. Although you could run Clear Sky at 2560 too with 2 HD 5870's. For pretty much any other game, it's overkill. What is nice though, that in pretty much any other game, you can run insane amounts of AA, or even SSAA. I've yet to upgrade my monitor, but at 1680*1050 I find myself running 4xAA with edge detect (12 samples) or higher most of the time :p

I have 2x 5850's OC'ed on water at 900/1175. I game at 2560x1600 fwiw and there is nothing they can't handle, even crysis. I'm still getting a third card tho :p
