I have a Trendnet TPE-S160 and the fan is very loud (high pitched whining noise). Is there some replacement fan that I could use that cuts the noise a lot?

Based on that product link, I would offer this:

1. The switch is old, and outdated. Investing money in anyway into this product is generally frowned upon. Spend the money to upgrade to something more current.

2. The switch is Power over Ethernet, which means it's generating more heat than a standard switch. The fan is doing its job. If the fan is a variable fan, you may be able to reduce the fan speed by moving the switch to a location with a lower ambient temp.

It might be that one (or few) clients are overloading the POE.

Try to unplug one at the time and see how its react.

This unit seems like it's still under warranty--I'd call trendnet and see what they say. If it's out of warranty, then you can open it up and see what type of replacement fan fits and will work--lots of searching and spec sheet checking, but there's bound to be a fan that meets the application. Usually the fans put in from the factory are an economical choice.
