TRENDnet TEW-647GA Wireless N Gaming Adapter $30

Trendnet makes great products, though can't comment on this specifically. Good buy for 360 owners especially wanting wireless.
 
I have a Linksys router with DD-WRT and it works great in bridge mode for Xbox Live, but it doesn't do wireless media streaming (at all/very well).

Will this work with Connect360, or Ps3 Mediaserver, or Tversity, or Rivet, or whatever else people use to stream things (in my case, from a Mac) to the Xbox?

Do people have good experiences with it over a G network? Will it stream video reasonably? I'd mostly be using it for audio, but video would be nice too.

Thanks! I'm looking to pull the trigger on this, but I just want to make sure media streaming works well.

Reviews on amazon look pretty good. Only complaints are:
-You don't get full wireless N speed
-You have to use a PC and software to initially set it up, so it's not just plug and go

Many people mention streaming without a problem so I imagine it works just fine with any of that software.

Seems like the streaming issue is fine, but a lot of users are reporting needing to reboot it (every time, everyone other time, once a week, etc). Seems like those older first/second generation 802.11b routers back in the day that were really flaky.

Not sure if it's worth it if that's the case.

You have to take some reviews with a grain of salt, as it's much less likely that a product will be reviewed when it lives up to expectations vs. when it fails. So just because some people have had problems doesn't mean this product is in fact flaky. There was a pretty well written review including video from somebody who sounds like they knew what they were talking about, and he was claiming zero problems with restarting. They've put out firmware updates as well so something may have been fixed at some point.

And good thing too, since I think the $30 price is dead, and it's back up to $48 or something.

But for those who missed out, don't despair. If Newegg had it for $30 and then Amazon a day later (better for me, since there's no CA tax), I'm sure it'll come around again.
 
These actually work very well and generally have a very strong connection. It's important to update to the latest firmware immediately though as it solves the daily reset/reboot issue completely in my experience. Like gorcorps stated you don't get "full" wireless-n speeds though, as it's capped by the 10/100 ethernet connection. Still I usually see a consistent 6-8MBps so it's about on par with most n adapters anyway.

Oh, about the streaming. I have one hooked up to a WDTV Live, these will stream DVD9 flawlessly, I've never had an issue to speak of. Blu-Ray may present a problem though, it's hit or miss depending upon the bitrate.

Well I just bought it for $40 -2% CB, so I'll be doing the firmware update on it ASAP then maybe it'll be usable...
 
Well got mine, it was a pain in the butt to get it up and running. Had to get it setup, then do firmware update on it. So it's working now, but lol it still lags streaming HD from my computer 🙁 Just like the G USB adapter I was using on the 360...lame 🙁

If you are looking for something to stream HD, I strongly recommend waiting for something like the above to go on sale. You'll need two, but it isn't as if you don't need 2 Wireless components to setup a wireless network either. I use two Asus 200 Powerline ethernet adapters and haven't looked back from wireless in terms of streaming to my Xbox/BluRay with Netflix HD. Not to mention streaming from my Media Center PC.

I remember something like that being on sale not to long ago. It was a pack that came with 2 actually, so it had everything you'd need.

You can stream unaltered Blu-ray perfectly well using 300 mbps wireless N. No skips, halts, glitches, nothing.

But I guess if you're trying to stream something at an even higher bitrate than that (whatever that would be) you might have a problem.
