Trendnet Gigabit switches

Anyone have experience with trendnet hardware?

Compusa sells their gear at very competive prices. 8 port gigabit switch for about $45. But no mention of Jumbo frame support any where. Their website has nothing about jumbo frames either, even on the big rack mount gear.

I am tempted by their low prices and 5 year warranty though.

Jumbo frames is MTU=9000.

I.e. if it states MTU 9000 or a similar Statement, it is Jumbo Frames capable.

JackMDS, jumbo frames refers to anything beyond 1518. Because it's not standardized, the exact limit is manufacturer specific. The IEEE really let the world down on this subject.

Thanks.

Doan I look at all the switches made by Trendnet and none of them mentioned Jumbo Frames or any numerical statement that would qualify to be called "Jumbo Frames".

I found few statements elsewhere on the Internet that complained about lack of this feature in the Top of the line switch (the 26 ports).

I.e. it is probably "Busted" on all the Trendnet Giga switches.

AFAIK, if it isn't mentioned it isn't supported.

If so they would include it and include the frame size. Just my opinion.

I also looked into this when shopping and didn't find any info on it, however I paid about $30.50 shipped for the 8 port Trendnet (from Buy.com $20 off $50 Google Checkout) and it has made a bit of difference in transfers.

I looked for that too....here's the link to the 8 port switch:

I purchased one of these around a month ago but have not had time to do anything with it yet.

I purchased it based on the pictures on Newegg's site among others. The picture is the same as the one you linked to.

Unfortunately the design has been dumbed down since those pics were taken. The indicator lights and the RJ-45 jacks are now on the same side and the power cable is on the other. I prefer to have all the cable (power and Cat) connections on one side and the lights on the other. I was not able to return it in due to need and work.

Just wanted to let you know. In case your installation needs are similar to mine.

Beyond the obvious "if they don't say, probably not," I have an educated guess as to which switch chip they're using, and that part doesn't support frames over 1500 (not even an extra four bytes for 802.1Q encapsulation).
