Tree Limb Tried To Crush My Shed!

Some kind of storm blew through here. Knocked power a couple times for a few minutes each. The last gust caused something to arc the power lines behind our house. Man it was a fireworks display. When I went to see the damage, I found a HUGE limb hanging precariously over my mini barn. It was actually resting on it, on the far side. Not sure if it had anything to do with the arcing, but it probably did.

I was hoping to shove it off before it caused any more damage, but found it was way too big to budge. I cut a branch or two, but it was till no go. Tried cutting the bulk off the end, but I found that was what was holding it up! Breaking it free would allow it to fall further, crushing the ridge, and possibly mess up the siding and a window on the way down.

In the end, I propped an extension ladder in the middle, and used that as a fulcrum to control how it fell. Took pictures of course!

Stupid tree branch! You should cut it up and use it as firewood. That'll learn it.

Ahhhh, good morning! Just a couple shingles to replace and a little cleanup. That's a load off! ;)

I'd rather the whole tree fell on it, than a single limb. My insurance will take care of the big damage, but I think I have like $500.00 deductable. A crushed ridge, messed up siding and broken window would have just barely hit that mark.

My brother will use it for firewood, but I'm not taking his truck back there for a few days. Its a swamp!

Would have sucked if your shed got owned... Is pic DSC02719a.jpg saying that there was a transformer on that pole, and now it's gone? Where did it go?

Nope, there isn't a transformer up there and never was. We just couldn't figure out was was causing the massive arcing. We had fireworks going for about 15 straight seconds coming from that area. In hind sight, I guess it may have been the end of the branch tangled in the wires. I'm going to go clean up the rest of the mess right now. I'll see if any of the leaves are scorched or something...

Dude, if there was massive arcing coming from it earlier, there's a chance that the tree is still electrocuted, you dolt. You call the power company to take care of this sort of thing, because they know how to do it and NOT DIE.
